Ibiza's hotel market remained firmly in the premium end of Spain's tourism sector during August 2026, as the island experienced another month of very high occupancy alongside elevated accommodation prices.

The latest official hotel statistics show that August remained one of the busiest periods of the year across Ibiza and Formentera, with around 1.8 million hotel overnight stays recorded across the two islands.

The number of overnight stays was broadly unchanged from August 2025, while the average length of stay became slightly shorter.

Strong Occupancy Across the Pitiusas

Hotels in Ibiza and Formentera recorded approximately 1.8 million overnight stays during August 2026.

According to data from Spain's National Statistics Institute, the number was only around 1,000 overnight stays higher than in August 2025.

There were approximately 61,940 Spanish visitors staying in hotels across the Pitiusas during the month, an increase of 11.8% year-on-year.

International hotel visitors also increased, reaching approximately 364,200, up 2.6% compared with August 2025.

Despite the increase in visitor numbers, the average hotel stay shortened from 4.4 days in August 2025 to 4.2 days in August 2026.

Hotel Occupancy Reached Around 86%

Hotel occupancy across Ibiza and Formentera reached approximately 86% in August.

The Pitiusas therefore remained one of Spain's most highly occupied tourism areas during the peak summer month.

At national level, the Balearic Islands recorded the highest occupancy by available bed places among Spain's autonomous communities, at 90.3% in August.

The figures underline the continued strength of demand for accommodation across the islands even as visitors increasingly appear to be taking shorter stays.

Hotel Prices Continued to Rise

The latest national figures also show how strongly hotel prices continued to increase during August.

Across Spain, the Hotel Price Index rose 6.3% compared with August 2025.

Hotels generated an average of €166.90 per occupied room, an increase of 7.3% year-on-year.

This €166.90 figure is a national Spanish average and should not be presented as the average price of an Ibiza hotel.

The official Hotel Price Index measures the prices received by hotel businesses from their different customer groups and covers hotel accommodation rather than the complete cost of a holiday.

Five-Star Hotels Continue to Command Premium Rates

The highest prices remain concentrated in the luxury segment.

Across Spain, five-star hotels recorded an average daily rate of €357.80 per occupied room in August 2026, compared with €176.70 for four-star establishments and €145 for three-star hotels.

Ibiza has a particularly strong luxury hotel market, with numerous five-star and luxury properties operating across areas including Talamanca, Santa Eulària, Playa d'en Bossa, Cala Llonga, Portinatx and other parts of the island.

Individual hotel rates can, however, vary dramatically according to the property, room category, dates, demand and booking conditions.

For that reason, national category averages should not be treated as representative of every five-star hotel in Ibiza.

A Premium Market Within a Larger Spanish Trend

The August figures form part of a wider increase in hotel prices across Spain.

The national Hotel Price Index has now recorded year-on-year increases for 62 consecutive months.

In August 2026, prices were 6.3% higher than a year earlier, while the average revenue per occupied room was 7.3% higher.

The increase has occurred alongside continued growth in hotel demand.

Spain recorded 48.8 million hotel overnight stays in August, 1.4% more than during the same month of 2025.

International overnight stays increased by 2.8%, while overnight stays by Spanish residents fell by 1.1%.

Ibiza's Hotel Market Continues to Evolve

The Pitiusas figures show an interesting combination of strong demand, high occupancy and shorter stays.

More international visitors stayed in hotels in August, while the overall number of overnight stays remained almost unchanged.

That suggests that the increase in visitors did not translate into a comparable increase in total hotel nights, with the average stay becoming shorter.

At the same time, Ibiza continues to attract a substantial luxury accommodation market, with high-end properties able to command significantly higher rates than the national hotel average.

The result is a market increasingly defined not simply by the number of visitors, but by the type of accommodation they choose, the length of their stay and the amount they spend during their time on the island.

August Confirms Ibiza's High-Value Tourism Position

The latest figures do not show an island experiencing a collapse in hotel demand.

Instead, Ibiza and Formentera maintained approximately 1.8 million hotel overnight stays in August, while occupancy remained high and international hotel arrivals increased.

The shorter average stay is an important development to watch, particularly as accommodation and travel costs remain elevated.

For Ibiza's hotel sector, the challenge is therefore increasingly about balancing strong demand with pricing, length of stay, staffing, infrastructure and the island's wider goal of attracting higher-value tourism.

August 2026 provides another snapshot of that changing market: Ibiza continues to attract large numbers of visitors, while its accommodation sector remains positioned toward the premium end of the Spanish tourism market.
