Hotel occupancy across Ibiza and Formentera eased in August 2026 after three consecutive months of year-on-year growth, although the season remains ahead of 2025 overall.

The Pitiusas recorded average hotel occupancy of 91.54% in August, compared with 92.26% in August 2025, a decrease of 0.72 percentage points, according to figures from the Federación Empresarial Hotelera de Ibiza y Formentera (FEHIF).

Ibiza Remains Broadly Stable

Ibiza's overall result changed little compared with last year.

The island recorded 92.06% occupancy in August, just 0.30 percentage points below the 92.35% recorded in August 2025.

The decline was concentrated in the second half of the month. Ibiza reached 93.31% during the first fortnight, above the 92.74% recorded a year earlier, before falling to 90.88% in the second half, compared with 91.99% in 2025.

Among the island's tourism areas, Santa Eulària was the only one to improve in August.

It reached 91.04%, up from 89.57% in 2025, and is also the only Ibiza area to have remained above the previous year's figures in every month since May.

Sant Antoni Leads the Occupancy Rankings

Sant Antoni and its bay recorded the highest occupancy among Ibiza's five monitored areas, reaching 92.96%.

That was still 0.54 percentage points below August 2025, but the area continues to lead the season's cumulative growth.

Between May and August, Sant Antoni and its bay averaged 86.41%, compared with 84.23% during the same period last year, an improvement of 2.18 percentage points.

Sant Josep also remained comfortably ahead on a season-to-date basis, despite a 0.93-point decline in August.

Its cumulative occupancy reached 85.62%, compared with 83.70% in 2025.

The North Is the Weakest Area

The North of Ibiza continues to show the most challenging trend.

Its August occupancy stood at 90.02%, down 1.11 percentage points from 2025.

More significantly, it was the only Ibiza area with a lower cumulative result for May to August. The four-month average was 83.24%, compared with 86.12% last year, a decline of 2.88 percentage points.

The second half of August was particularly weak, with occupancy falling to 88.09%, compared with 91.25% during the same period in 2025.

Formentera Takes the Biggest Hit

The largest year-on-year decline came on Formentera.

The island recorded 87.10% hotel occupancy in August, compared with 91.04% in August 2025, a fall of 3.94 percentage points.

Unlike Ibiza, the decline affected both halves of the month. Occupancy was 86.61% during the first fortnight, down 4.79 points year-on-year, and 87.56% in the second, still 3.14 points below the same period in 2025.

The result is particularly notable because Formentera had improved on the previous year in May, June and July.

Season Still Ahead of 2025

Despite the August slowdown, the wider season remains positive.

Between May and August, average hotel occupancy across Ibiza and Formentera reached 85.21%, compared with 84.03% during the same period in 2025.

Ibiza recorded an even stronger cumulative improvement, reaching 86.21%, up 1.70 percentage points year-on-year.

Formentera also remains marginally ahead for the season as a whole, with 77.99% compared with 77.51% last year, although August substantially reduced that advantage.

FEHIF Sees Overall Stability

FEHIF president María Costa Roig described the August figures as broadly positive, pointing to stability following several seasons of very high occupancy.

She said variations of around one percentage point should be viewed as relatively normal when occupancy remains above 90%.

The federation is taking a different view of Formentera's result, however.

FEHIF vice-president and president of the Formentera hospitality association Juan Manuel Costa Escanellas called the nearly four-point decline significant and said its causes should be examined, including the possible effects of tourism restrictions introduced in recent years.

A Strong Season With a Clear Warning Sign

The August figures do not point to a broad collapse in Ibiza's hotel market. Ibiza remained largely stable, and the combined May-to-August performance continues to exceed 2025.
