€15,000 Fine for Illegal Passenger Van in Ibiza
Pubblicato il 14 September 2026 alle 07:38
Ibiza Local Police have immobilised and removed a van after finding it was operating irregularly to transport passengers, with the person responsible receiving a €15,000 fine for unauthorised passenger transport.
The intervention was carried out as part of the reinforced “4th shift” operation in Eivissa, which is designed to increase police inspection capacity against serious offences and activities involving intrusismo.
The operation also included a separate joint inspection with mobility officers from the Consell de Ibiza, resulting in multiple traffic offences and a drink-driving case.
€15,000 Fine and Van Removed
The most significant intervention took place during the 4th-shift operation on the night of Friday into Saturday.
Police intercepted a van that was operating irregularly to transport passengers. Officers immobilised the vehicle and had it removed, while the person responsible was issued a €15,000 sanction for intrusismo in passenger transport.
The Ibiza City Council said the operation forms part of its continued efforts to tackle illegal passenger transport, protect user safety and maintain fair competition within the sector.
62 Vehicles Checked in Joint Operation
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, Ibiza Local Police worked alongside mobility inspectors from the Consell de Ibiza in a separate inspection operation.
A total of 62 vehicles were checked at several locations around Ibiza Town, including the Passeig de Joan Carles I near the Marina Botafoc roundabout, Avenida de Santa Eulària near the Podencos roundabout and the junction of Carrer Fra Luis de León with Avenida Pere Matutes Noguera.
The joint operation resulted in 16 reports for different offences.
These included one case involving drug possession or consumption, one related to alcohol, 12 for failing to wear a seat belt and two issued by the Consell for breaches involving authorisation to enter and circulate on the island.
Drink-Driving Case Also Detected
Police also initiated criminal proceedings for a road-safety offence after a driver was found to have exceeded the permitted alcohol limit.
During the joint operation, €650 in traffic penalties were collected on the spot.
The separate Friday-night operation also resulted in three additional seat-belt offences, with the corresponding €300 in fines paid immediately.
Reinforced Police Checks Continue in Eivissa
The Friday-to-Saturday operation focused particularly on VTC vehicles on Passeig de Joan Carles I, as well as compliance with seat-belt requirements.
The discovery of the unauthorised passenger van was the most significant intervention during that operation, resulting in both the vehicle's removal and the €15,000 sanction.
The action reflects the continued enforcement of passenger-transport regulations in Ibiza, particularly against operators working outside the required authorisation system.
A Wider Focus on Illegal Transport
Illegal passenger transport and intrusismo have remained a focus for Ibiza authorities during 2026, with the Consell de Ibiza also carrying out inspections and enforcement operations across the island.
For passengers, the latest intervention is another reminder of the importance of using properly authorised transport services.
For licensed operators, the inspections are intended to help protect fair competition and ensure that passenger services comply with the applicable regulations.
The latest operation shows that reinforced police controls are continuing in Eivissa as the 2026 summer season enters its final weeks.
