Motocross World Championship Experts Help Shape Ibiza’s Future Parc Motor at sa Coma

September 17, 2026

The future Parc Motor de sa Coma in Ibiza is moving closer to completion, with specialists connected to the organisation and design of FIM Motocross World Championship circuits joining local motocross representatives to help define the new track.

The technical visit took place on September 16 as construction continues at the long-awaited motor-sport complex. The aim is to ensure the circuit meets both the needs of Ibiza's riders and clubs and the technical requirements necessary to host official motorcycle competitions.

Experts Visit the Construction Site

Salvador Losa, Councillor for Sports at the Consell d'Eivissa, visited the site alongside representatives of the Federació Balear de Motociclisme, Ibiza motor clubs and professionals with experience at international motocross level.

Among those taking part were Rafael Cañellas, president of the Balearic Motorcycle Federation; Elías Escandell, the federation's vice-president and Ibiza delegate; Patricia Maskamrova of Infront, the company involved in organising the Motocross World Championship; and Greg Atkins, a specialist in the design of World Championship motocross circuits.

Representatives of the Motoclub de Formentera i Eivissa and Motoclub Dirt Riders Ibiza also attended, together with Consell technicians and representatives of the construction company.

The Track Is Still Being Defined

The visit was not simply a tour of the construction works.

The group examined the characteristics of the site and worked on the definition of the future motocross layout, looking at how the available space can accommodate regular training and competitions while also meeting the technical standards required for official events.

The Consell says this process is being carried out during the construction phase so that the final installation can be adapted as effectively as possible to the needs of the sport.

1,525-Metre Circuit

The planned Parc Motor circuit has a total length of 1,525 metres and will be six metres wide, with a 105-metre starting straight.

The track is being constructed at a lower level than the surrounding terrain and will be bordered by earth embankments and acoustic screens.

A safety zone will run parallel to the circuit, while the complex will include a pit lane, paddock, officials' area, changing rooms, toilets, medical facilities, starting grid, spectator areas, a bar and technical areas.

More Than €5.7 Million Investment

The project has an awarded budget of €5,744,360.06 including VAT.

Environmental and landscape measures form a major part of the project, with more than half of the investment allocated to areas including landscape integration, acoustic control and environmental management.

The design is intended to reduce the impact of motor-sport activity on the surrounding area while providing a permanent and regulated venue for riders.

A Project Decades in the Making

The Parc Motor de sa Coma has been one of Ibiza's longest-standing demands from the motor-sport community.

For years, local riders and clubs have lacked a permanent facility suitable for regular training and competition, forcing activities to take place in temporary or less suitable locations.

The new complex is intended to bring different motor-sport activities into a dedicated and regulated environment.

Construction Continues

Construction began on May 13, 2025, under an 18-month programme, with completion previously estimated for September 2026.

The latest technical visit shows that work on the facility is continuing while the detailed track design is being refined. Earlier project information has indicated that the circuit could become operational around the end of 2026 or into early 2027, depending on the completion and commissioning process.

Could Ibiza Host Major Official Events?

The involvement of professionals experienced in World Championship circuit design is significant because the Consell has explicitly stated that it wants the new facility to be capable of hosting official motorcycle competitions.

However, there is currently no announcement that Ibiza has been awarded a round of the Motocross World Championship itself.

For now, the focus is on getting the circuit design and infrastructure right, creating a venue capable of supporting local riders while meeting the standards required for higher-level competition.

A New Chapter for Motor Sport in Ibiza

The latest technical work represents another step towards turning the Parc Motor de sa Coma from a decades-old demand into a permanent sporting facility.

With construction progressing and international-level circuit expertise now being brought into the design process, Ibiza is working towards a track intended to serve both its local motocross community and potentially a wider calendar of official competitions in the future.
