Alejandra Ferrer has announced that she will not stand in the Gent per Formentera primary election to choose the party's lead candidate for the May 2027 elections.

Ferrer communicated the decision to party members during the formation's assembly on September 26, bringing to an end her candidacy for another term as the person leading the party's electoral list. She has been active in frontline politics for 16 years.

Ferrer Says She Is Closing a Political Chapter

In a letter sent to party members, Ferrer described the decision as the closure of a personal and political stage and the beginning of another way of remaining involved.

She also expressed her continued confidence in Gent per Formentera and said the party remains important for maintaining a political voice rooted in the island. Those statements reflect Ferrer's own position and do not represent an assessment of the party's electoral prospects.

Ferrer also reflected critically on her time in politics, acknowledging that she believed some decisions could have been better explained and that there were situations in which the party could have listened more or sought agreement earlier.

Sixteen Years in Frontline Politics

Ferrer entered the Formentera Island Council in 2011.

She served as councillor for Tourism, Mobility and Commerce from 2011 to 2015 and then as third vice-president and councillor for Territory, Tourism, Activities and Commerce from 2015 to 2019.

In 2019, she became president of the Consell de Formentera, also holding responsibility for Tourism Planning and Promotion. From 2021 to 2023, she served as first vice-president and continued to oversee tourism.

She is currently a councillor and spokesperson for the Gent x Formentera group during the 2024-2027 legislative term.

She Will Remain Involved in GxF

Ferrer has made clear that not standing in the primaries does not mean that she is abandoning the political project.

In her message to members, she said she would continue to be connected to Gent per Formentera and would remain committed to the island from a different position.

The party assembly also paid tribute to Ferrer for her 16 years of frontline political activity.

GxF Begins Its Leadership Selection Process

Ferrer previously led the Gent per Formentera list in the last two island elections. Her decision means that the party will now proceed with its primary process to select the person who will head its list for the May 2027 elections.

The decision does not itself determine who will lead the party's 2027 campaign. That will depend on the primary process and its outcome.

For now, Ferrer remains part of the Consell de Formentera as spokesperson for Gent x Formentera for the remainder of the current legislative term.
