Ibiza Town Council has put a budget of €1,992,654.61, including VAT, on a project to create five public homes for young people in Sa Penya.

The homes are planned on the site of existing ruins next to the Sa Pedrera archaeological laboratory, within the historic neighbourhood.

The project is part of a wider €4.7 million housing investment approved by the municipal council this week.

Five Homes Planned on Existing Ruins

The project will involve the comprehensive rehabilitation of the currently ruined site and its conversion into five public homes integrated into the historic fabric of Sa Penya.

The municipality says the intervention will serve two purposes: increasing the city's public housing stock and continuing the residential and urban regeneration of the historic neighbourhood.

The five homes will be specifically aimed at young people from the municipality.

PEPRI Approval Comes Before Tender

The project has not yet reached the construction stage.

The next step is approval by the Commission of the Special Plan for the Protection and Reform of the Interior, known as PEPRI.

Once the necessary approval has been obtained, the Town Council plans to put the works out to tender.

No confirmed construction start date or completion date has been announced.

Priority for Long-Term Residents

The Town Council says residents who can demonstrate at least 10 years of registration in the municipality will have priority when the future homes are allocated.

The final allocation criteria will still need to be established by the municipality.

The approach follows the council's stated policy of directing its own protected housing initiatives towards residents with long-term registration in Ibiza.

Part of a Wider €4.7 Million Housing Package

The five Sa Penya homes form part of a broader municipal housing package worth €4.7 million.

The wider investment includes funds to acquire existing homes or residential buildings for incorporation into the municipal public housing stock, as well as the rehabilitation work in Sa Penya.

The municipality has also been advancing other housing projects, including the planned development of protected housing and supported accommodation on public land near Can Misses.

Continuing the Recovery of Sa Penya

The new project adds to several housing-related interventions already taking place in Sa Penya.

Seven municipal affordable-rental homes in the neighbourhood were allocated earlier this year, while another municipal property in Travessia de Sa Penya is being prepared for rehabilitation and social rental use.

The latest project focuses on a site currently occupied by ruins and would return it to residential use.

Five New Public Homes

Once the required heritage and planning approval is obtained, the next formal stage will be the tendering of the construction works.

Until then, the five homes remain a planned public housing project rather than completed or currently under construction.

If delivered, the development will add five new public homes for young people while contributing to the ongoing rehabilitation of Sa Penya.
