14-Year-Old Argentine Girl Remains in Critical Condition After Moped Collision in Formentera

October 15, 2026

A 14-year-old Argentine girl was left critically injured after being struck by a moped in Formentera on Tuesday evening, 13 October 2026. She was transferred by helicopter to Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza, where the latest publicly reported medical update said she remained in intensive care in critical condition.

The collision occurred at approximately 20:46 on the road in the Ca Marí area, near the Es Pins bungalows and the beach of Migjorn. Emergency medical teams initially took the girl to Formentera Hospital before arranging an urgent helicopter transfer to Ibiza due to the seriousness of her injuries.

The Ibiza and Formentera Health Area later clarified that the girl was 14 years old and of Argentine nationality. Initial reports had given her age as 16.

What Happened on the Road Near Es Pins?

According to details attributed to the Guardia Civil, the girl was crossing the road behind a bus that had stopped at the nearby bus stop when she was struck by the moped.

The collision took place on the road at Ca Marí, in the vicinity of the Es Pins restaurant and bungalow complex. The area was described as poorly lit and without a pedestrian crossing at that point. The stopped bus also obstructed part of the rider’s view of the road.

The moped was travelling towards Migjorn beach, while the girl was crossing towards the PM-820 road. The collision occurred in the lane in which the moped was travelling.

The rider was not reported to have suffered injuries and reportedly said he had not seen the girl. The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation. The available information does not establish legal responsibility for the incident.

Emergency Treatment and Helicopter Transfer to Ibiza

Emergency medical services dispatched an advanced life-support ambulance and a helicopter after the collision.

The girl was first taken to Formentera Hospital for initial treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently evacuated by helicopter to Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza.

She was admitted to Can Misses at 22:56 on Tuesday evening with severe multiple injuries, described medically as polytrauma.

The Health Area confirmed on Wednesday, 14 October, that she was receiving treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit and remained in critical condition. No newer public update confirming a change in her condition was located for this report.

A Serious Collision Under Investigation

The incident occurred on a section of road where the circumstances surrounding the stopped bus, the pedestrian crossing and visibility have become relevant to the reported sequence of events.

However, the available information does not provide a final reconstruction of the collision or a determination of fault. Those questions remain matters for the ongoing investigation.

The case also highlights the importance of caution for both pedestrians and drivers around bus stops, particularly after dark and where visibility may be obstructed. That general safety concern does not determine responsibility in this specific incident.
