Spain U21 Take on Romania in Ibiza with European Championship Qualification at Stake

October 06, 2026

Ibiza is set for a major international football occasion on Tuesday as Spain’s Under-21 team face Romania at Can Misses in the decisive final match of their European Championship qualifying campaign.

Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 on October 6, with the Estadi Municipal de Can Misses sold out for the visit of the Spanish national team.

The match is Spain’s final fixture in Group A of qualification for the 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Serbia and Albania.

Spain Lead Group A

Spain go into the final matchday at the top of Group A with 24 points, two ahead of Finland.

The Spanish side have put themselves in a strong position after a campaign that has included a 13-0 victory over San Marino in their most recent match, with Carlos Espí scoring five goals.

Spain therefore have qualification firmly within their reach, although the result in Ibiza will be important in determining exactly how the group finishes.

A victory over Romania would guarantee Spain’s place in the European Championship final tournament.

Other combinations involving Finland’s match against Kosovo could also see Spain qualify, meaning the team does not necessarily have to win to reach the final tournament.

Romania Arrive in Ibiza with Nothing to Play For

Romania are third in the group and have 16 points.

They can no longer reach the second position, meaning Tuesday’s match will not affect their qualification prospects.

Spain, meanwhile, will be looking to finish the campaign strongly and secure their place at next summer’s tournament.

The first meeting between the two sides ended with a 2-0 victory for Spain, with Gonzalo García and Iván Fresneda scoring in Romania.

Gonzalo García Leads the Attack

One of the notable absences for Spain is Carlos Espí, who has joined the senior national team following the injury to Ferran Torres.

His departure opens the way for Gonzalo García to take a leading role in attack.

The squad also includes several highly regarded young players, including Barcelona players Marc Bernal and Xavi Espart, Como players Jacobo Ramón and Álex, and Atlético Madrid midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza.

Chupe and Athletic Club player Peio Canales have also joined the squad to cover absences.

A Full Can Misses Awaits

The RFEF has confirmed that tickets for Spain versus Romania are sold out.

For Ibiza, the match represents another opportunity to welcome an international Spanish team to the island, with Can Misses set to provide a full stadium for the final game of Spain’s qualifying campaign.

Spain head coach David Gordo has also highlighted the support received from Ibiza, expressing his appreciation for the welcome given to the team and the enthusiasm surrounding the match.

The objective is clear: finish the qualifying campaign strongly, give the Ibiza crowd a performance to remember and secure Spain’s place at the 2027 European Under-21 Championship.
