Sant Miquel Festivities Continue in Ibiza With Tradition, Music and Family Events
Published on September 18, 2026 at 12:12 PM
Sant Miquel de Balansat is in the middle of its 2026 patron saint festivities, with more than a month of activities bringing together traditional Ibiza culture, live music, sport, theatre and family entertainment.
The programme began on September 12 and continues through Sunday, October 18, with events taking place around the village and at locations including the Pi d’en Basuró, Port de Sant Miquel, the municipal swimming pool and the local football ground. The celebrations are organised by the Sant Miquel Festivities Committee together with Sant Joan de Labritja Town Council.
Tradition Returns to the Pi d’en Basuró
The next major event comes on Saturday, September 19, when the programme combines sport and traditional Ibiza culture.
The morning begins with Compak Sporting training at Finca d’en March, while the afternoon brings the traditional Ballada al Pi d’en Basuró.
From 6pm, the event will feature ball pagès, traditional games, competitions and other activities centred on local customs.
The following day, Sunday, September 20, the Official Compak Sporting Championship will take place at Finca d’en March.
A Big Weekend of Music on September 26
Saturday, September 26 is one of the busiest dates in the programme.
The day begins with the Caminata Sant Miquel, a popular walk from the church of Sant Miquel to Port de Sant Miquel.
The evening then shifts to live music in the village.
Esta Me La Sé will perform versions of Spanish pop from the 2000s to the present, followed by Cacho a Cacho with its tribute to Estopa. DJ Showkats will then take over for the final part of the night.
The programme combines the daytime walk with a major evening of music, giving the celebrations a distinctly local and community-focused character.
September 27 and 28 Bring Family Activities
The festivities continue on Sunday, September 27 with a magic and illusion show by Mag Alexis.
An afternoon manilla card championship is also scheduled at the bar of the local senior citizens' club, while an open-air screening of Sonic 3 is planned for the village square.
On Monday, September 28, a Pilates class will take place in the square, followed by a yoga session at Port de Sant Miquel on Wednesday, September 30.
September 29 Is Sant Miquel's Main Day
The central day of the festivities arrives on Tuesday, September 29, the feast of Sant Miquel.
The morning begins with a major ringing of the church bells.
At 6pm, the programme continues with a solemn Mass and procession at the church, followed by a performance of ball pagès by the Colla de Balansat.
The evening then moves into music and traditional fire celebrations, with Groove Garage performing at 8:30pm before the night concludes with a correfoc at 10:30pm led by the dimonis i bruixes of Es Mals Esperits.
The combination of religious ceremony, traditional dance, live music and the correfoc makes September 29 the main focal point of the celebrations.
Art Also Forms Part of the Programme
From September 26 to 29, the municipal hall will host an exhibition from the Taller Artístic Gartxi of Elena Garchitorena.
The exhibition will be open between 6pm and 8pm, adding a visual-arts element to the wider programme of festivities.
Balansat Balla Returns in October
The celebrations continue after the patron saint's day.
On Saturday, October 3, the municipal swimming pool will hold an open day from 9:30am to 1pm.
That evening, the village square will host the third edition of the Festival Balansat Balla, beginning at 6:30pm.
The programme includes the Asociación Cultural de Sant Miquel, els Bastoners de Sant Cugat and Aires des Pla de Marratxí, bringing together traditional dance and cultural exchange.
October 4 Is Dedicated to Older Residents
Sunday, October 4 will focus on the island's older residents.
The day begins with a solemn Mass at 10:30am, followed by ball pagès and a community meal.
The afternoon continues with children's workshops, activities and music in the village square, followed by theatre at 7:30pm and an Electro Bingo session later in the evening.
The programme gives different generations a place within the same celebration, from traditional religious and cultural events to activities designed for children and families.
A Programme for Different Generations
One of the defining features of the 2026 festivities is the variety of activities.
Alongside the traditional ball pagès and religious ceremonies are sporting events, walking, yoga, Pilates, concerts, magic, cinema, theatre and children's entertainment.
This mixture allows the celebrations to function as both a patron saint festival and a broader community programme for residents and visitors.
The Festivities Continue Until October 18
The final scheduled day of the celebrations is Sunday, October 18.
The programme will move to the Sant Miquel football ground, where Penya Independent will present its 2026/27 teams.
A Regional División de Honor match between Penya Independent and UD Ibiza is scheduled for midday, followed by an Argentine barbecue and the presentation of the club's teams in the afternoon.
That brings the official programme to a close more than five weeks after the opening activities on September 12.
A Celebration of Sant Miquel Culture
The Festes de Sant Miquel are rooted in the traditions of the village and its surrounding area.
Ball pagès, religious ceremonies and local community gatherings remain central, while contemporary music, family entertainment and sport have become part of the wider programme.
The inclusion of events such as the traditional Ballada at Pi d’en Basuró, the September 29 correfoc and the Balansat Balla festival helps keep Ibiza's cultural traditions visible within a programme that also appeals to younger generations.
For Sant Miquel de Balansat, the festivities remain an important moment for residents to come together, celebrate local identity and maintain traditions while welcoming visitors to the village.
Sant Miquel Celebrates Into October
With activities continuing until October 18, the 2026 Festes de Sant Miquel extend well beyond the traditional September 29 feast day.
From ball pagès and the correfoc to concerts, walking, sport, theatre, children's activities and community celebrations, the programme offers a broad look at village life in northern Ibiza.
As the main summer season begins to wind down, Sant Miquel provides a reminder that Ibiza's cultural calendar continues long after the busiest weeks of summer.
