Santa Eulària Chamber Music Festival Opens Today in Jesús With Violin and Cello Concert

Published on October 11, 2026 at 01:36 AM

The fifth Santa Eulària Chamber Music Festival begins today, Sunday, October 11, bringing an evening of classical music to the Centre Cultural de Jesús with a performance by two musicians born in Ibiza.

Cellist Mónica Marí and violinist Rubén Herrera will open the festival at 19:00 with Cordes a escena, a concert exploring music for violin and cello across different periods, from the Baroque era to contemporary compositions.

The performance launches a programme of four concerts running until October 31, with a mixture of chamber music, brass, family-oriented music and dance, and a recital featuring voice and piano.

A Musical Journey From Corelli to Contemporary Composers

The opening concert will last approximately one hour and feature works by Arcangelo Corelli, Reinhold Glière, Camille Saint-Saëns, Georges Bizet, Sally Beamish, George Frideric Händel and Johan Halvorsen.

The programme opens with Corelli's La Folia, followed by Glière's Canzonetta and Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre. Audiences will also hear selected passages from Bizet's Carmen, Beamish's Harbour Blues and the Passacaglia by Händel and Halvorsen.

Rather than presenting the repertoire without context, the musicians will introduce selected compositions with brief explanations, helping audiences understand the pieces and their musical backgrounds.

The approach is intended to appeal both to regular classical-music audiences and to people discovering chamber music for the first time.

Two Ibiza Musicians With International Experience

Mónica Marí and Rubén Herrera both began their musical education in Ibiza before continuing their studies and professional careers elsewhere.

The pair reconnected in the Netherlands and have maintained an artistic collaboration since 2005, performing together both on the island and abroad.

Marí specialises in contemporary and newly created music and has worked with numerous composers and ensembles. Her orchestral collaborations include the RTVE Orchestra, the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. Since 2020, she has taught cello at the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Balearic Islands.

Herrera completed his higher violin studies at Barcelona's Conservatori del Liceu before continuing his training in Rotterdam. He has participated in chamber ensembles and orchestral projects and has been a member of the Moana Quartet since 2018.

Their opening performance brings two musicians with international experience back to their home island for the launch of this year's festival.

Four Concerts at the Centre Cultural de Jesús

Following Sunday's opening, the festival continues with three further performances throughout October.

On Sunday, October 18, at 19:00, the acclaimed Spanish Brass quintet presents Essentials, a programme celebrating more than three decades of the ensemble's career.

On Sunday, October 25, at 17:30, Art3 presents Les fades dels somnis, an educational performance combining music, dance and fantasy, particularly aimed at families and younger audiences. The programme includes songs from Disney and film soundtracks, with opportunities for children to participate.

The festival concludes on Saturday, October 31, at 19:00, with Retrats d'amor, performed by soprano Mar Vives and pianist Marc Laliga. The recital explores different musical representations of love through French, Spanish, German and Italian repertoire.

All four concerts take place at the Centre Cultural de Jesús in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu.

Tickets and Venue Information

Advance tickets are available online for €10 plus booking fees. Tickets can also be purchased at the box office for €12, starting one hour before each performance.

With a programme spanning several musical styles and audiences, the fifth edition offers an opportunity to experience chamber music in an intimate cultural setting, while highlighting both local talent and established performers.

For Ibiza residents and visitors interested in classical music, the opening concert provides a chance to hear two musicians with roots on the island perform together as the Santa Eulària Chamber Music Festival begins its October programme.
