Ibiza's 24th Mostra Folklòrica Ciutat d’Eivissa Brings Traditional Dance, Music and Culture to Can Ventosa

Published on October 11, 2026 at 02:59 AM

Ibiza Town celebrates traditional music, dance and popular culture today, Sunday, October 11, with the 24th edition of the Mostra Folklòrica Ciutat d’Eivissa, bringing together folklore groups from Tenerife, Palencia and Ibiza.

Organised by Colla Sa Bodega with the collaboration of Ibiza Town Council, the free cultural event offers residents and visitors an opportunity to experience different regional traditions through live music, traditional dancing, costumes and instruments.

The programme begins at 17:30 with a parade departing from Plaça de Julià Verdera in Figueretes. The procession will continue through the streets towards Can Ventosa, where performances by the participating groups begin at 18:00.

Three Groups, Three Distinct Traditions

This year's showcase brings together three groups representing different parts of Spain, each with its own musical repertoire, dances and traditional clothing.

The programme features Parranda Chaboco from La Orotava in Tenerife, Agrupación Folklórica El Cristo from Palencia and the local host group, Colla Sa Bodega.

Together, they will present traditions from the Canary Islands, Castilla y León and Ibiza, highlighting the diversity of Spain's regional folk cultures.

Parranda Chaboco: Canarian Folklore from Tenerife

Representing the Canary Islands, Parranda Chaboco comes from Pinolere, in the municipality of La Orotava, Tenerife.

Founded in 2009, the group has 26 members of different ages and is led musically by Filiberto López, with Nélida Rodríguez serving as president.

The group's name refers to an element associated with traditional watermills in the La Orotava valley, historically connected with the production of gofio, a staple food in Canarian culture.

Parranda Chaboco works to preserve and promote the traditional music of the archipelago, bringing its repertoire to cultural events and festivals across the Canary Islands.

Agrupación Folklórica El Cristo: Traditions from Palencia

The second visiting group represents Palencia and the wider cultural traditions of Castilla y León.

Agrupación Folklórica El Cristo was founded in 1989 at Colegio Juan Mena de la Cruz, with the aim of promoting the area's traditional music and customs. It later became an independent association after developing links with the local neighbourhood association.

Today, the group has 25 members and focuses on researching, preserving and performing the folklore of Palencia and Castilla y León.

Its repertoire includes jotas, traditional dances, ligeros and polkas associated with different parts of the province, including Tierra de Campos, El Cerrato, La Vega and northern Palencia. The group also incorporates pandereteras and a vocal ensemble into its performances.

Colla Sa Bodega: Keeping Ibiza's Folk Traditions Alive

As the host group, Colla Sa Bodega represents Ibiza's own traditional culture.

Founded in 1987 through the initiative of the parents' association at Colegio Público Sa Bodega, the group now operates independently while maintaining its connection with the school, where its headquarters remain.

With around 30 members, Colla Sa Bodega works to preserve and promote Ibizan popular traditions through traditional dance, music, crafts and clothing.

Its activities extend beyond performances. The group also offers traditional dance classes for children and adults and provides training in local instruments such as castanets, drum, s'espasí, flute and corn marí.

Craftsmanship is another important part of its work, with members involved in creating traditional clothing, espardenyes, hats and instruments.

Through these activities, Colla Sa Bodega helps pass Ibiza's cultural heritage on to younger generations while keeping traditional arts relevant within contemporary island life.

A Longstanding Celebration of Popular Culture

The Mostra Folklòrica Ciutat d’Eivissa has been held since 2001 and has developed into a meeting point for different expressions of traditional culture.

By bringing together groups from outside the island alongside a local association, the event creates an opportunity to exchange musical traditions, dances, costumes and knowledge.

The participation of Parranda Chaboco and Agrupación Folklórica El Cristo also allows audiences to discover traditions from Tenerife and Palencia alongside Ibiza's own ball pagès and popular culture.

The event forms part of the city's wider cultural programme and highlights the continued role of local associations in preserving and sharing the island's heritage.
