Ibiza JoySail 2026 Brings 19 Superyachts to Ibiza and Formentera

October 03, 2026

The sixth edition of Ibiza JoySail brought 19 sailing superyachts to Ibiza and Formentera in September, combining three days of competitive racing with a programme of social events based around Marina Ibiza.

The invitation-only regatta took place from 17 to 20 September 2026, with yachts ranging from 80 to 147 feet taking part. The fleet was divided into five classes for the competition.

The event is organised by STP Shipyard Palma and Marina Ibiza and has established itself as an annual fixture on the Mediterranean superyacht sailing calendar.

Racing Begins After Weather Delay

The opening day did not go ahead on the water.

An official weather warning and an approaching weather front led the organisers to cancel racing on the first day, keeping the fleet in port. Racing then began on 18 September, with the programme continuing through the weekend.

The second day took the fleet around Formentera, while later racing included coastal courses off Ibiza.

The final race covered approximately 16 nautical miles off the coast of Ibiza, with the Race Committee using a shorter course because lighter winds were forecast. The course included upwind and downwind sections that tested the crews' tactics and navigation.

Five Class Winners

The 19-yacht fleet competed across five classes, producing five overall class winners.

MOAT won the Performance Class for the sixth time at Ibiza JoySail, extending its record at the event.

The remaining class victories went to WINWIN in Performance Cruising 1, CERVO in Performance Cruising 2, POINT COUNTER POINT in Performance Cruising 3 and NOSTROMO in World Cruising.

POINT COUNTER POINT was also first across the finish line on the final day, while CERVO secured its third race win of the week before taking the overall title in its class.

Additional Owner Driver and Corinthian trophies were awarded across the classes.

Racing Around Ibiza and Formentera

One of the defining features of Ibiza JoySail is the variety of courses available around the Pityusic Islands.

The 2026 fleet raced in waters around Formentera as well as Ibiza, allowing the Race Committee to use different coastal settings and course configurations during the regatta.

MOAT tactician Cole Parada highlighted the variety of courses around Ibiza and the steady sailing conditions when reflecting on the 2026 event.

The fleet brought together different types of sailing yachts, from high-performance racing projects to yachts competing in cruising configuration.

A Growing Superyacht Regatta

Ibiza JoySail was launched in 2021 and has developed into an invitation-only event.

The 2026 fleet included returning competitors and newcomers, with Southern Wind the most represented shipyard with seven yachts and Nautor Swan represented by four. Other participating builders included Vitters Shipyard, Baltic Yachts, Claasen, Pendennis Shipyard, Oyster, Wally, Y Yachts and J.O.M. Holland.

The regatta combines competitive sailing with a shoreside programme centred on Marina Ibiza, giving crews and owners an opportunity to socialise after racing.

The Perpetual Trophy Returns in 2027

The Ibiza JoySail programme also includes the separate Perpetual Trophy, a record attempt covering approximately 48 nautical miles between Punta Cala Figuera in Mallorca and Tagomago off Ibiza.

The trophy is not part of the standard coastal-racing programme. For 2027, participating yachts will again have a 30-day window before the regatta to attempt the crossing, with the detailed rules for the next edition to be confirmed.

The event organisers have already announced the dates for the seventh Ibiza JoySail, which will take place from 23 to 26 September 2027.

Ibiza JoySail Heads Towards 2027

With the sixth edition complete, Ibiza JoySail is now preparing for its seventh edition next September.

The 2026 regatta brought 19 superyachts together for racing around Ibiza and Formentera, with MOAT securing another Performance Class victory and four other yachts taking the remaining class titles.

The 2027 edition is scheduled to return to Marina Ibiza from 23 to 26 September, continuing a regatta that has grown from its launch in 2021 into an established event on the Mediterranean superyacht sailing calendar.
