37-Year-Old Formentera Resident Dies After Assault in Es Pujols

A 37-year-old resident of Formentera has died after spending several days in a coma in Ibiza following an alleged assault in Es Pujols on September 18.

The man, who was originally from Colombia and had lived on Formentera since his adolescence, died during the night of September 29-30 at the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Ibiza, according to information communicated by his family.

The incident took place during the early hours of September 18 in Es Pujols, where the man was allegedly involved in a confrontation with a security worker at another establishment.

According to the account reported by the family, the security worker allegedly struck the 37-year-old several times. After the incident, the man returned to his home. These details remain part of the investigation and have not been established as proven facts by a court.

Five days later, on September 23, his condition deteriorated and emergency services were called to his home. He was initially treated on Formentera before being transferred urgently to the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Ibiza. There, he underwent surgery for serious head injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit in a coma.

Guardia Civil investigation remains open

The Guardia Civil continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and the events that followed.

Investigators are paying particular attention to the period between the alleged assault and the point at which the man received medical attention. Police Judicial officers and forensic experts have been requested to join the investigation as authorities work to establish exactly what happened and whether responsibilities arise from the incident.

There have been no reported arrests in connection with the case at the time of publication.

The Guardia Civil had already opened an investigation following a complaint filed by a relative of the injured man. His death now forms part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the assault and his subsequent deterioration.

A long-time Formentera resident

The man had lived on Formentera for decades after arriving on the island during his adolescence. According to RadioIlla, he was known and appreciated by many local residents and had worked in different sectors, including construction and property maintenance.

He leaves behind a six-year-old son.

The investigation remains open, and authorities have not publicly established the full circumstances surrounding the man's death or announced any criminal responsibility.
