Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy universe will soon be able to watch the six films from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies on Spanish television, as Neox prepares a special programme titled Universo Tolkien.

The Atresmedia channel has announced that the collection will include all three The Lord of the Rings films in their extended editions, the complete The Hobbit trilogy and the first two seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The announcement means that 16 episodes of The Rings of Power, alongside the six feature films, are set to arrive on free-to-air television in Spain.

However, Neox has not yet confirmed when the broadcasts will begin or published a schedule for the films and series.

Which The Lord of the Rings Films Will Be Shown?

The special will include Peter Jackson’s three-film adaptation of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, following Frodo Baggins and the mission to destroy the One Ring.

The announced titles are:

• The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

• The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

• The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Neox has confirmed that all three will be broadcast in their extended editions. These versions include additional scenes and material not shown in the original theatrical cuts, giving viewers a longer version of the story.

The trilogy follows the formation of the Fellowship, the widening conflict against Sauron’s forces and the final stages of the struggle to destroy the Ring.

The Hobbit Trilogy Is Also Included

The programme will also feature the three films following Bilbo Baggins on his journey to help a company of dwarves reclaim their homeland, Erebor, from the dragon Smaug.

The titles are:

• The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

• The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

• The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Although these films were released after Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, their stories take place earlier in the fictional chronology of Middle-earth.

Neox has confirmed the inclusion of all three films but has not specified whether they will be shown in extended editions.

The Rings of Power Arrives on Spanish Television

One of the main features of Universo Tolkien is the television debut of the first two seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The series, originally distributed by Prime Video, is set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It explores the Second Age of Middle-earth, including the rise of Sauron and the creation of the Rings of Power.

The first two seasons contain eight episodes each, giving viewers 16 episodes in total.

The series shares Tolkien’s wider fictional world with the films but follows a different period in its history, with stories involving characters such as Galadriel and Elrond.

When Will Universo Tolkien Be Broadcast?

Neox announced Universo Tolkien on 14 October 2026, describing the special as coming soon.

As of 16 October, the channel had not confirmed the first broadcast date, the order of the films or the episode schedule for The Rings of Power.

Viewers will therefore need to wait for the channel’s official programming announcement before planning when to watch.

The special is expected to bring together the two film trilogies and the first two seasons of the series in one free-to-air television offering, giving audiences in Spain an opportunity to revisit Middle-earth without needing a subscription to a streaming platform for these scheduled broadcasts.
