Paralympic Judoka Marta Arce Introduces Inclusive Sport to 146 Pupils in Santa Eulària

October 16, 2026

The session at CEIP Sant Ciriac formed part of the sixth edition of the DIE Esport Inclusiu a l’Escola programme, with 98 students also taking part in practical adapted sports activities.

Primary school pupils in Santa Eulària had the opportunity to learn about inclusive sport and the importance of equal opportunities when Paralympic judoka Marta Arce visited CEIP Sant Ciriac on Thursday, 15 October.

The visit marked the first session of the sixth edition of the DIE Esport Inclusiu a l’Escola programme, an educational initiative designed to promote inclusion through sport and help young people understand how sporting activities can be adapted so that more people can participate.

A total of 146 pupils attended the session, where they learned about Arce’s personal journey and sporting career. A further 98 students took part in practical activities at the municipal sports centre, discovering and trying different forms of inclusive and adapted sport.

Students Try Judo, Sitting Volleyball, Goalball and Athletics

The practical session introduced pupils to several sporting disciplines, including judo, sitting volleyball, goalball and athletics.

These activities gave students an opportunity to experience different approaches to sport and explore how adaptations can help people with different abilities participate.

Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for athletes with visual impairments. Sitting volleyball adapts the traditional game by requiring players to remain seated on the court, while adapted athletics allows sporting activities to be adjusted to participants’ needs.

Marta Arce Shares Her Paralympic Experience

Arce is one of Spain’s leading Paralympic judoka and has won four Paralympic medals. Her achievements include silver medals at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, bronze at London 2012 and another bronze at Paris 2024.

Born with albinism associated with a significant visual impairment, she has used her sporting career and public speaking to encourage greater understanding of disability and inclusion.

Her visit gave pupils the opportunity to learn directly from an elite athlete about her experiences in sport and the importance of making participation possible for everyone.

Programme to Reach Ten Schools During the 2026-2027 Academic Year

The DIE Esport Inclusiu a l’Escola programme is organised by the Sports Department of the Consell Insular d’Eivissa and the Fundación Sanitas Chair of Studies on Inclusive Sport, with the collaboration of Santa Eulària Town Council.

During the 2026-2027 academic year, the initiative is scheduled to visit ten educational centres across Ibiza.

Through classroom sessions and practical sporting activities, the programme aims to promote inclusion, equal opportunities and a better understanding of adapted sport among schoolchildren across the island.
