Ibiza Records 251.7% Rise in Summer Flight Bookings by Spanish Travellers, Second Only to Vitoria

October 16, 2026

Bookings for departures from Ibiza Airport by Spanish travellers rose by 251.7% between June and August 2026 on one travel platform. Official airport figures, however, show overall passenger traffic grew by a more modest 2.5% in August.

Ibiza was one of Spain's fastest-growing departure airports in summer 2026 according to travel booking data, with departures booked by Spanish travellers increasing by 251.7% year on year between 1 June and 31 August.

Only Vitoria recorded a larger increase, at 281%, in the same dataset. Ibiza ranked ahead of Menorca, Palma, Asturias and Bilbao, highlighting a strong rise in bookings made through the platform.

However, the figures need to be understood in context. They reflect completed bookings recorded by a travel booking platform, rather than the total number of passengers travelling through Ibiza Airport.

Official airport statistics show a considerably smaller increase in overall traffic, underlining the difference between growth in bookings on an individual platform and the airport's total passenger numbers.

Ibiza Leads Much of the Balearic Islands in Booking Growth

The summer figures put Ibiza among the strongest-growing Spanish airports in the platform's data.

The year-on-year increases between 1 June and 31 August 2026 were:

  • Vitoria: 281%

  • Ibiza: 251.7%

  • Menorca: 197%

  • Asturias: 160.2%

  • Palma de Mallorca: 155.4%

  • Bilbao: 152.6%

Across Spanish airports, the number of Spanish travellers departing during the summer increased by 108.7% in the dataset. Completed bookings grew by 119.5%.

Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat continued to account for a substantial share of departures, together representing 44.3% of the total recorded by the platform. Their year-on-year growth rates were 105.1% and 87.6%, respectively.

The data therefore point to strong growth beyond Spain's two largest airport hubs, although the figures measure activity on the booking platform rather than the entire aviation market.

What Do Official Ibiza Airport Figures Show?

Aena's passenger statistics provide a broader picture of traffic through Ibiza Airport, also known as Es Codolar.

In August 2026, the airport handled 1,519,201 passengers, an increase of 2.5% compared with August 2025. Aircraft movements rose by 5.2%, reaching 13,643.

For the period from January to September 2026, the airport recorded 8,041,125 passengers, 3% more than during the same period in 2025. Aircraft movements over those nine months also increased by 3%, to 73,543.

These figures demonstrate why the booking increase should not be interpreted as equivalent growth in total airport traffic. The two datasets measure different things and cover different populations.

The booking figures focus on Spanish travellers departing through a particular platform, while Aena's figures count passenger traffic across the airport.

Summer Growth Continued Into Early Autumn

The travel platform's data also indicated that the upward trend in bookings continued into early autumn.

Between 1 September and 12 October 2026, Spanish travellers departing from airports across the country through the platform increased by 40.6% compared with the same period a year earlier.

San Sebastián recorded the largest increase in that period, at 247.9%, followed by Asturias at 183.6%, Granada at 167.2%, Bilbao at 121.7% and Almería at 106.5%.

Madrid accounted for 27.1% of the departures recorded during this period, while Barcelona represented 16.5%.

Not all airports experienced growth. Santiago de Compostela recorded an 18.5% decline, Fuerteventura fell by 11.2% and Tenerife South decreased by 9.5%.

What the Figures Mean for Ibiza

The summer results show that Ibiza experienced a substantial increase in bookings made by Spanish travellers through one travel platform. They also illustrate how regional airports can record faster percentage growth than larger hubs within a particular dataset.

Nevertheless, the figures do not establish that Ibiza received 251.7% more passengers overall, nor do they independently explain the reasons behind the booking increase.

Aena's official figures provide the more representative measure of the airport's total passenger traffic: growth of 2.5% in August and 3% across the first nine months of 2026.

Together, the two datasets offer different perspectives on Ibiza's summer air travel, with booking activity rising sharply on one platform while overall passenger numbers continued to grow at a more moderate rate.
