Air Serbia Still Interested in Ibiza Flights as Airline Plans Major Expansion for 2027

November 05, 2026

Air Serbia is continuing to consider Ibiza as a potential destination for its expanding European network, although the Serbian national airline has yet to secure the airport slots needed to launch the route. Speaking in an interview with aviation publication EX-YU Aviation News, CEO Jiří Marek identified Ibiza as one of the destinations the carrier would like to serve, while confirming that summer slot availability remains a significant obstacle.

The comments come as Air Serbia prepares for another major year of expansion in 2027. The airline plans to grow by approximately 15–20%, with its main priority being to increase frequencies and capacity across existing routes rather than introduce a large number of entirely new destinations.

For Ibiza, the renewed mention is encouraging, but it does not represent a confirmed announcement of direct flights from Belgrade.

Ibiza Remains on Air Serbia's Radar

Air Serbia has previously expressed interest in introducing seasonal flights between Belgrade and Ibiza, recognising the island's appeal as a Mediterranean summer destination.

However, securing suitable take-off and landing slots at Ibiza Airport during the busiest summer periods has proved difficult.

In his latest interview, Marek explained that the airline is still struggling to obtain slots at certain airports, specifically mentioning Ibiza as a destination it would like to serve.

The comments suggest that the route remains commercially interesting to the carrier, but its introduction depends on the availability of suitable airport capacity.

This is not the first time the issue has delayed the project. In November 2025, Air Serbia revealed that it had been unable to secure its preferred slot timings for a planned Ibiza service. At the time, the airline said it remained hopeful of obtaining the necessary permissions for a future summer season.

No launch date, operating schedule or ticket sales for a Belgrade-Ibiza route have been announced.

Northern Spain Also Being Considered

Beyond Ibiza, Air Serbia is examining further opportunities in Spain, particularly in the northern part of the country.

Marek indicated that the airline sees potential in additional Spanish destinations, although he did not identify specific cities during the interview.

The carrier already has an established presence in the Spanish market, with its network continuing to expand. Its confirmed 2027 programme will also include Menorca, which is scheduled to become its ninth destination in Spain.

The addition of Menorca will strengthen Air Serbia's presence in the Balearic Islands, although it should not be confused with a confirmed Ibiza service.

Six New Destinations Confirmed for 2027

Air Serbia has already announced six new destinations for its 2027 summer season, representing a significant expansion of its network.

The confirmed additions are:

  • Yerevan, Armenia, from 28 March 2027.

  • Helsinki, Finland, from 1 April 2027.

  • Miami, United States, from 20 May 2027.

  • Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from 31 May 2027.

  • Chișinău, Moldova, from 3 June 2027.

  • Menorca, Spain, from 16 June 2027.

The new routes will connect Belgrade with destinations across Europe, the Caucasus and North America.

Menorca is particularly relevant to the Balearic Islands, as it will provide another direct connection between Serbia and the Spanish archipelago. The route is scheduled to operate twice weekly during the summer season.

Despite these six additions, Marek explained that the airline's main focus for 2027 will be strengthening its existing network.

Air Serbia Targets 15–20% Growth

According to Marek, Air Serbia is targeting growth of approximately 15–20% during 2027.

Rather than concentrating solely on launching new destinations, the airline intends to increase frequencies and available capacity on routes it already operates.

The strategy reflects the development of its Belgrade hub, which provides passengers with connections to destinations across Europe and beyond.

To support this expansion, Air Serbia is also planning to increase its aircraft capacity. Its 2027 fleet plans include replacing two Airbus A319 aircraft with higher-capacity Airbus A320s and adding an Embraer E195 to strengthen its short- and medium-haul operations.

The airline believes that adding more flights to established routes can improve connectivity across its wider network and make better use of its existing destinations.

Cairo, Beirut and Damascus Among Longer-Term Possibilities

The interview also touched on potential opportunities in the Middle East.

Marek said Air Serbia would consider restoring flights to Cairo if the regional situation stabilises. He also identified Damascus and Beirut as natural candidates for a return to the airline's network at some point in the future.

However, these possibilities remain dependent on geopolitical developments and operating conditions.

Other destinations, including Dublin and Manchester, are also being evaluated, although the airline does not currently consider market conditions sufficient to support their introduction in the near term.

Central Asia remains another area of interest, but the airline's current fleet capacity and aircraft performance constraints limit its ability to pursue further expansion there.

Will Air Serbia Finally Launch Flights to Ibiza?

For Ibiza, the latest comments are another indication that the island remains on Air Serbia's list of potential destinations.

A direct connection with Belgrade could provide an additional route for Serbian travellers visiting Ibiza and create opportunities for onward connections through Air Serbia's growing network.

However, airport slots remain the central issue. Until suitable take-off and landing times are secured and the airline officially publishes a route, the possibility of direct flights should be treated as an ongoing plan rather than a confirmed service.

For now, Air Serbia's 2027 expansion is focused on six newly announced destinations and increasing capacity across its existing network. Whether Ibiza eventually joins that network will depend, in part, on the airline's ability to secure the necessary summer airport slots.
