CCOO Estimates That Workers Need €3,432 a Month to Live in Ibiza in 2026 as Housing Costs Continue to Rise

November 03, 2026

Living in Ibiza requires a significantly higher income than in the rest of the Balearic Islands, with workers needing an estimated €3,432.64 net per month to cover their living costs, according to the latest reference salary study published by Comisiones Obreras (CCOO).

The 2026 study places the annual net reference salary for Ibiza at €48,056.93, highlighting the growing financial pressure on residents as housing costs continue to rise. The figure is calculated over 14 payments and represents the income that an individual worker would need to cover essential expenses while maintaining a reasonable standard of living.

Across the Balearic Islands, the equivalent reference salary stands at €2,426.19 net per month over 14 payments, representing a 7.3% increase compared with 2025.

Ibiza Has the Highest Reference Salary in the Balearic Islands

The figures reveal considerable differences in the cost of living between the islands, with Ibiza recording the highest reference salary in the archipelago.

According to the 2026 study, the monthly net income considered necessary to cover living expenses is:

  • Ibiza: €3,432.64

  • Formentera: €3,006.06

  • Mallorca: €2,325.64

  • Menorca: €1,939.90

Ibiza's reference salary is approximately 76.9% higher than Menorca's, reflecting the substantial differences in housing and everyday living costs across the islands.

The annual reference salary for Ibiza reaches €48,056.93, equivalent to approximately €4,004.74 per month when distributed across 12 payments.

Housing Costs Are the Main Source of Financial Pressure

Housing remains the largest expense in the CCOO calculations and is a major factor behind the increasing income required to live in the Balearic Islands.

Across the archipelago, housing costs have increased by 18.6% compared with the previous year. The situation is particularly pronounced in Ibiza, where the housing-related expenditure included in the study has risen by approximately 25.8%.

In Ibiza, housing accounts for 71.71% of the reference salary, leaving considerably less income available for other everyday expenses.

The pressure on household budgets is also affecting spending patterns. CCOO has highlighted how workers are having to reduce expenditure on areas such as food, clothing, footwear and household maintenance as a greater proportion of their income goes towards accommodation.

The study uses rental housing costs rather than property purchase prices when calculating the reference salary.

What the CCOO Study Includes

The reference salary is designed to estimate the income an individual worker needs to cover a range of everyday expenses. It goes beyond basic subsistence and includes the possibility of maintaining a minimum level of social and cultural participation.

The calculation considers housing, food, clothing and footwear, transport, education, leisure, culture, health, personal hygiene and unexpected expenses.

Importantly, this is an individual reference salary rather than a fixed household budget. It recognises that households have different circumstances, including people living alone and families with more than one income.

The findings underline the growing challenge of maintaining an adequate standard of living in Ibiza, where the cost of accommodation continues to place significant pressure on residents and the local workforce.
