The ferry formerly known as Ciudad de Ibiza has officially changed ownership, flag and name after being delivered to Arab Bridge Maritime at the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The vessel was handed over to the Jordanian shipping company on September 24, 2026. It is now registered under the Jordanian flag and operates under the name Al Jisr.

The ship's IMO number is 9263370, and current maritime registration information identifies Arab Bridge Maritime Company as its registered owner.

From Ciudad de Ibiza to Al Jisr

The sale was agreed between the Armas Mead family, which owned the vessel, and Arab Bridge Maritime.

The transaction followed an agreement to terminate the ferry's charter with Baleària. The ship had been operating in the Canary Islands in recent months, primarily on the roll-on/roll-off cargo service linking Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

It was subsequently replaced on that service by Al Andalus Express.

Following the handover, the vessel was reflagged to Jordan and renamed Al Jisr. The ownership change was completed at Las Palmas.

A 2003-built RoPax ferry

The vessel was built in 2003 and is classified as a RoPax ferry, meaning it is designed to carry both vehicles and passengers.

It was originally delivered as Atalaya de Alcudia. In 2005, it changed ownership within the Spanish shipping sector and was renamed Super-Fast Galicia.

In June 2017, the vessel was renamed Ciudad de Ibiza.

The ferry measures approximately 157.7 metres in length and 23.2 metres in beam.

Its published specifications include accommodation for around 218 passengers and 22 crew members, together with approximately 1,750 lane metres of vehicle and freight capacity.

Baleària charter ends

Before the sale, Ciudad de Ibiza was operating under a charter arrangement with Baleària.

The agreement was terminated to allow the sale to Arab Bridge Maritime to proceed.

As part of the arrangement, Baleària agreed to assume the employment liabilities affecting the crew members displaced by the sale, with the workers to be reassigned within Baleària's fleet.

The arrangement means the ownership change did not result in the affected crew simply losing their employment, according to the information published about the transaction.

Arab Bridge Maritime expands its fleet

Arab Bridge Maritime, based in Jordan, was established in 1985 as a joint venture between the governments of Jordan, Egypt and Iraq.

The company operates passenger and vehicle ferry services in the Red Sea region and says it currently owns its own fleet.

The acquisition of Al Jisr adds another RoPax vessel to its fleet.

The company has previously acquired vessels from the Spanish market. Its fleet includes Amman, formerly Manuel Azaña, and Sinaa, formerly Volcán de Tejeda.

The vessel's next role

The ownership and registration change has now been completed, but the available information does not establish the vessel's specific next route or the date on which it will enter regular service for Arab Bridge Maritime.

For that reason, it would be premature to state that Al Jisr will immediately enter a particular route.

What is confirmed is that the former Ciudad de Ibiza has left its recent Spanish operation, has been transferred to Arab Bridge Maritime and is now registered under the Jordanian flag.

The end of the Ciudad de Ibiza name

The change brings the latest chapter in the ferry's Spanish career to an end.

For almost a decade, the name Ciudad de Ibiza was associated with the vessel, which operated in different roles within the Spanish ferry sector after taking the name in 2017.

It now begins a new chapter as Al Jisr under Arab Bridge Maritime and the Jordanian flag.
