Ibiza Town Hall will not initially focus its current working group on occupied homes and premises, with Mayor Rafael Triguero saying the issue will be addressed in a second phase after work on irregular settlements has been advanced.

Triguero made the statement during the municipal plenary session on Thursday, September 24, in response to a question from Vox councillor Héctor Andrés about an occupied restaurant premises in the Platja d’en Bossa area.

Occupation issue moved to a second phase

Triguero said the municipal working group dealing with irregular settlements would first concentrate on settlements located on public and private plots.

He said that, once the impact of those settlements had been reduced, the “second phase” would address the occupation of properties.

No date was given for the start of that second phase, and the mayor did not announce specific new measures or a timetable for dealing with occupied homes and premises.

Mayor acknowledges complaints across the city

During the plenary session, Triguero acknowledged that the municipality is aware of occupation cases in several parts of Ibiza.

He said there are complaints involving activities, the Local Police and Social Services, indicating that the issue is already known to different municipal departments.

The comments came after Vox raised the case of an occupied restaurant premises in Platja d’en Bossa, referring to problems that residents allegedly experience in the surrounding area, including vehicle parking.

The mayor said the municipality was aware of that location and other cases but did not announce a specific intervention there during the session.

Weekly working group on irregular settlements

Triguero defended the work already being carried out by the municipal team responsible for monitoring irregular settlements.

The group brings together representatives from Social Services, Urban Planning, Environment and the Local Police and meets every Tuesday morning, according to the mayor.

He described the work as ongoing throughout the year.

For the time being, however, the working group's priority remains the settlements rather than occupied homes and commercial premises.

Ses Feixes intervention

As an example of the work being undertaken, Triguero referred to the intervention at a settlement in Ses Feixes.

According to the mayor, after several months of municipal work, the property owner is now acting under an enforcement order.

A separate intervention on another private plot was also mentioned, although the location was not identified.

The mayor subsequently clarified that the action on the second property would be carried out by the owner rather than directly by the municipality.

What happens to people living in the settlements?

Triguero also referred to the movement of people living in settlements when sites are dismantled.

He said the municipality is working to channel the likely displacement that occurs when these settlements are removed.

No detailed relocation programme or specific accommodation arrangement was announced during the plenary discussion.

No timetable yet for the second phase

For now, the municipality's stated sequence is clear: work on irregular settlements comes first, followed by action on occupied properties as a second phase.

However, the Town Hall has not provided a date for that second phase or announced the specific measures it would involve.

The issue therefore remains on the municipality's agenda, but the plenary discussion did not establish a timetable for new action against occupied homes or premises.
