Trekking Ibiza Volunteers Remove Dozens of Kilos of Plastic From Sant Josep Coast

September 17, 2026

A group of nine volunteers from Trekking Ibiza has carried out a coastal clean-up along one of the more difficult-to-access stretches of the Sant Josep coastline, removing dozens of kilos of plastic and other marine debris.

The volunteers worked along the route connecting the Ses Boques restaurant area with Cala Llentrisca, collecting waste from several points along the coast.

Boat Support Allowed Access to Remote Areas

The clean-up was supported by Andy Pirata, who provided a boat to help the group reach sections of coastline that are difficult to access on foot.

The additional support allowed the volunteers to collect a larger volume of waste and transport it away from the shoreline once the operation was completed.

A Windsurf Board Among the Debris

The material recovered included a windsurf board, highlighting the size and variety of objects that can accumulate along Ibiza's coastline.

The volunteers also collected nine bags of plastic waste, a container from emergency rafts, various pieces of iron, crab traps and several 20-litre plastic drums.

The recovered material was loaded onto the boat and taken away for appropriate management and subsequent recycling.

Waste Reaching Ibiza's Coastline

The clean-up highlights the range of rubbish that can accumulate in coastal areas, particularly in places where access is more difficult and regular collection is not possible.

Plastic containers, fishing-related equipment and other marine debris can remain in the environment for long periods if they are not removed, creating risks for coastal ecosystems and wildlife.

Volunteers Play a Key Role

Trekking Ibiza's latest action also highlights the contribution of volunteer groups to the conservation of Ibiza's coastline.

By combining organised walking routes with coastal clean-ups, the group was able to reach areas that would otherwise be difficult to clear and remove waste before it could cause further environmental impact.

Continued Attention on Coastal Waste

The action comes amid growing attention to the amount of waste found along Ibiza's coastline.

Other clean-up campaigns across the island have also recovered significant quantities of plastic, fishing materials and other rubbish from beaches and rocky coastal areas.

The Sant Josep operation provides another reminder that some of the island's most secluded stretches can also accumulate substantial amounts of waste carried by the sea or left behind over time.

A Cleaner Coast From Ses Boques to Cala Llentrisca

For the Trekking Ibiza volunteers, the result was a substantial collection of waste removed from a remote section of the Sant Josep coastline.

The combination of volunteer work and boat support allowed the group to reach areas that are challenging to access and ensure that the recovered materials could be removed from the coast for proper treatment and recycling.

Their work highlights the continuing role that organised community action can play in keeping Ibiza's coastline cleaner.
