Two people were rescued from a difficult-to-access section of the cliffs at Cala Blanca, in Santa Eulària, after Ibiza firefighters carried out a complex operation involving specialist rescue teams and a drone equipped with a spotlight.
The rescue took place on Monday, 26 October, with steep terrain and limited natural light making it more difficult for emergency crews to reach the two people and bring them to safety.
According to reports published on 27 October, the operation was coordinated by the Ibiza Fire Service’s Vertical Rescue Group (GRV) and Special Drone Group (GED). Their combined efforts allowed rescuers to locate the pair, reach their position and complete the evacuation.
Drone Helped Locate and Illuminate the Rescue Site
The terrain around the Cala Blanca cliffs presented significant challenges for the rescue team. The steep and difficult-to-access landscape complicated the approach, while the lack of natural light further restricted visibility.
The drone team played an important role by deploying an aircraft equipped with a powerful spotlight. This provided illumination for the operation and helped rescuers identify the location of the two people.
Meanwhile, members of the Vertical Rescue Group made their way across the difficult terrain to reach them.
The operation demonstrated how aerial equipment can support specialist rescue teams when access is limited and visibility is poor.
Controlled Evacuation From Difficult Terrain
After reaching the two people, the firefighters established a rescue system using load-braking equipment. This allowed the team to manage the evacuation in a controlled manner on the challenging terrain.
The operation required coordination between the vertical rescue specialists working on the ground and the drone operators providing assistance from the air.
According to the published reports, both people were successfully brought out of the area safe and sound.
Specialist Teams Work Together in Coastal Emergencies
The rescue highlights the role of specialist teams within the Ibiza Fire Service when incidents occur in locations that are difficult to reach using conventional emergency response methods.
The Vertical Rescue Group is trained to operate in challenging environments, while the Special Drone Group can provide aerial support, assist with locating people and improve visibility when conditions are difficult.
At Cala Blanca, the combination of ground-based rescue expertise and drone-assisted illumination helped crews complete the evacuation despite the terrain and limited light.
The authorities have not publicly detailed the circumstances that led the two people to require assistance, and the reports reviewed do not provide further information about their identities or whether they sustained injuries.
