Formentera will welcome a comedy performance inspired by the characters, customs and everyday life of Ibiza on Saturday, 24 October, when 8 apellidos ibicencos takes to the stage at the Sala de Cultura (Cinema). Written by comedian and actor José Boto, the production will begin at 20:00 as part of the island's L’Illa a Escena cultural programme.

The play brings a distinctly Pitiusan perspective to the stage, drawing on local traditions, familiar social situations and the particularities of life in Ibiza and Formentera.

A Comedy Inspired by Everyday Life in Ibiza

At the centre of the story is a film director who arrives in Ibiza determined to make a movie titled 8 apellidos ibicencos. Convinced that his project will be a success, he begins searching the island for people to cast in his production.

His plans soon encounter a series of unexpected complications, creating opportunities for comic misunderstandings and situations rooted in the island's character.

Much of the action unfolds on the terrace of Bar Marí Tur, a familiar meeting place that becomes the setting for the play's colourful characters and their encounters. Through these everyday interactions, the production explores local customs and the quirks of Pitiusan life with an affectionate, humorous approach.

José Boto Leads the Cast

The production is written by José Boto, a comedian, actor and theatre creator originally from Madrid who has lived in Ibiza for more than a decade. His television credits include El Club de la Comedia, La hora de José Mota, 7 vidas, España Directo and Aída.

The cast features Ana Linero, José María Marí, Laura Moreno, José Ignacio Ricarte, Gaizka Reche, Eva Tur, David Alba and José Boto. The performance also includes musical collaboration from Mauricio Bellido.

The production draws on the performers' connection with Ibiza Comedy Club and aims to bring familiar island characters and situations to a theatre audience.
