The family behind Palladium Hotel Group has increased its estimated fortune by €140 million in one year, rising nine positions in Forbes Spain’s 2026 ranking of the country’s 100 wealthiest entries.
Ibiza-born businessman Abel Matutes Juan and his family have climbed to 77th place in Forbes Spain’s 2026 ranking of the country’s 100 richest entries, with an estimated fortune of €740 million.
The latest ranking, published by Forbes Spain on 3 November 2026, represents an improvement of nine positions compared with the previous year, when the family was ranked 86th with an estimated fortune of €600 million.
The increase of €140 million represents approximately 23.3% growth in the family's estimated wealth over the year.
Listed as Abel Matutes y familia, the entry recognises the wider family's business interests, particularly its ownership of Palladium Hotel Group, alongside property investments in Ibiza and the Costa del Sol.
From Ibiza to One of Spain’s Wealthiest Business Families
Abel Matutes Juan was born in Ibiza in 1941 and has built a career spanning business and public life.
Before becoming one of Spain's most prominent business figures, he served as mayor of Ibiza from 1970 to 1971 and represented Spain in European institutions. He later became Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position he held from May 1996 until April 2000.
His connection to Ibiza remains central to the family's business history, particularly through its involvement in tourism, hotels and property development.
The latest Forbes entry also highlights the role of his son, Abel Matutes Prats, who leads Palladium Hotel Group. Together, father and son are associated with the family's hotel and real estate interests, which extend beyond the Balearic Islands.
Palladium Hotel Group Remains at the Centre of the Family’s Business Interests
A major part of the family's business presence is Palladium Hotel Group, the hospitality company with origins in Ibiza and an international portfolio of hotel brands and destinations.
According to Forbes, the group closed 2025 with €1.162 billion in managed business revenue, reflecting its significant position in the international tourism and hospitality sector.
The figure refers to the group's managed business volume, rather than the Matutes family's personal income or the value of its wealth.
The company continues to develop its international presence, with its activities spanning hotel brands, resort destinations and new property projects.
Forbes also highlights the group's expansion ambitions, including plans to enter new international markets such as Asia.
The Family’s Estimated Wealth Increased by €140 Million
The latest Forbes ranking estimates the Matutes family's fortune at €740 million, compared with €600 million in 2025.
This places the family nine positions higher in the national ranking, moving from 86th to 77th place.
It is important to understand that these figures represent Forbes' estimates of wealth. They should not be interpreted as cash holdings, annual earnings or the company's turnover. Nor does the ranking provide a detailed breakdown of how the estimated fortune is distributed among individual family members and business interests.
Nevertheless, the increase highlights the continued financial position of one of Ibiza's most established business families.
Ibiza’s Presence in Spain’s Wealth Rankings
The Matutes family is among the Balearic business figures recognised in Forbes Spain's 2026 ranking.
The list also includes prominent names from the region's tourism and hospitality industry, reflecting the important role that family-owned hotel businesses have played in developing the Balearic Islands' international economic profile.
Among the other Balearic entries are Miguel Fluxà of Iberostar, the Riu family, Gabriel Escarrer of Meliá Hotels International and Simón Pedro Barceló of Grupo Barceló.
Miguel Fluxà ranks tenth nationally with an estimated fortune of €4.1 billion, making him the highest-ranked Balearic representative in the 2026 list.
The presence of these business families highlights the continued influence of the tourism industry in the economic landscape of the Balearic Islands.
A Growing Business Legacy with Roots in Ibiza
The Matutes family's rise in the 2026 ranking reflects its continued presence in tourism, hospitality and property development, with businesses operating both in Spain and internationally.
For Ibiza, the recognition also highlights the island's connection to a business group whose development has extended far beyond its original home.
With an estimated family fortune of €740 million and a move to 77th place among Spain's 100 wealthiest entries, the latest Forbes ranking places the Matutes family among the country's most prominent business fortunes.
Its progress from 86th place in 2025 illustrates the increase in its estimated wealth over the past year and the continued relevance of its business interests in Spain's tourism and hospitality sector.
