Two Suspected Thieves Arrested in Ibiza After Stolen Headphones Lead Police to Hostel

05 November 2026

Two men have been arrested in Ibiza after police used the geolocation system of stolen wireless headphones to trace the devices to a hostel in the city. Officers activated the headphones' remote sound signal inside the building, allowing them to locate one of the suspects wearing them. A further search led to the recovery of a professional tool backpack and other stolen belongings valued at approximately €2,400.

The arrests were carried out by the Policía Nacional following a complaint from a man who reported that several personal belongings had been stolen from inside his vehicle.

According to information released by the police and reported by Europa Press on 5 November 2026, the incident took place on Tuesday, 3 November. The victim was able to establish the location of his wireless headphones through their tracking system and provided the information to officers.

Geolocation Leads Police to an Ibiza Hostel

After receiving the complaint, officers accompanied the victim to the location indicated by the headphones' geolocation system.

The signal led them to a hostel in Ibiza. Once inside the establishment, the officers remotely activated the headphones' sound-detection function.

The sound emitted by the devices could be heard coming from inside the building, allowing the officers to narrow down their search and identify the person carrying them.

They subsequently located one of the men wearing the stolen headphones.

When questioned about where he had obtained the devices, the man reportedly gave several different explanations about their origin.

Second Suspect Identified and Stolen Backpack Recovered

Further police checks led officers to identify a second man who was accompanying the first suspect and was allegedly connected to the theft.

During an inspection of the hostel, officers also discovered a professional tool backpack in a separate area of the building.

The victim recognised the backpack as another item stolen from his vehicle.

According to Noudiari, the backpack alone was valued at approximately €1,500. The total value of the belongings identified during the police intervention was estimated at around €2,400.

Two Men Arrested for Suspected Theft

Following the relevant checks, the Policía Nacional arrested both men as suspected perpetrators of an offence of theft (hurto).

The investigation allowed officers to recover the headphones and the other identified belongings, including the professional tool backpack.

The arrests demonstrate how geolocation technology can assist police investigations by helping victims identify the whereabouts of stolen electronic devices and providing officers with a starting point for locating other missing property.

The two men were arrested in connection with the suspected theft. Their arrest does not constitute a conviction, and their criminal responsibility remains subject to the judicial process.
