UD Ibiza and Ibiza Town Council Advance Talks Over Major Can Misses Stadium Redevelopment

02 November 2026

UD Ibiza and Ibiza Town Council are progressing negotiations over an ambitious redevelopment of Can Misses, with a proposed investment of several tens of millions of euros potentially transforming the municipal stadium into a modern football and entertainment venue.

The project, being developed by the club presided over by Amadeo Salvo, envisages a substantial reconstruction of the existing facilities, alongside new commercial and hospitality spaces intended to generate activity beyond football matches.

A long-term operating arrangement of at least 40 years, potentially extending to 50 years, is being discussed to allow UD Ibiza to recover its investment over time.

However, despite reports of significant progress in the negotiations, the Town Council has explicitly stated that no final agreement has been reached. The legal framework, financial conditions and technical details still need to be resolved before the project can move forward.

A Long-Term Agreement of 40 to 50 Years Under Discussion

The negotiations concern the future operation and redevelopment of Can Misses, which is owned by Ibiza Town Council and currently serves as the home stadium of UD Ibiza.

According to reporting by Cadena SER, the discussions have advanced towards a draft agreement that would allow the club to undertake a major investment in exchange for operating the facilities over several decades.

The proposed period would be at least 40 years, with the possibility of extending it to approximately 50 years. Such a long-term arrangement would be intended to make the substantial financial commitment viable for the club.

The preferred legal route reported by SER is a direct award of the operating concession rather than a public tender. However, this remains part of the negotiations and has not been formally approved.

One of the outstanding financial issues is the annual fee UD Ibiza would pay to the Town Council for operating the stadium. An external consultancy has reportedly been commissioned to establish the appropriate amount, which would be linked to the annual financial settlement.

On 30 October, La Voz de Ibiza reported that municipal sources had denied the existence of a concluded agreement, stating that discussions were continuing. The distinction is important: progress in negotiations does not mean that a legally binding concession has been signed.

A Major Transformation of the Existing Stadium

The club's preliminary proposal would effectively transform the current Can Misses into a substantially modernised stadium, with a capacity reported at approximately 12,000 to 13,000 spectators.

The final capacity has not been established, and published reports differ on the figure.

The project envisages improvements to the main stand and the general stand, including covered spectator areas and expanded services throughout the venue.

VIP areas would also be introduced, with particular attention to improving facilities and hospitality for season-ticket holders and supporters.

The overall design is expected to incorporate sustainability and energy-efficiency measures, although the final technical specifications have not yet been made public.

UD Ibiza Would Continue Playing During Construction

One of the important elements of the proposal is the intention to carry out the redevelopment in phases.

This would allow UD Ibiza's first team to continue playing its home matches at Can Misses while construction work progresses.

The phased approach is intended to avoid the need for a permanent relocation of the club during the redevelopment.

A temporary stadium in Sant Antoni was reportedly considered during earlier discussions, but the current proposal described by SER focuses on maintaining football activity at the existing site.

The exact construction timetable, phases and arrangements for supporters have not yet been confirmed.

Restaurants, Commercial Spaces and Concerts Beyond Football

The plans go beyond the construction of a conventional football stadium.

One of the central ambitions is to develop Can Misses into a venue that can generate activity throughout the year, rather than depending exclusively on the club's match calendar.

The preliminary project includes a small commercial centre with restaurants and other businesses, creating additional reasons for people to visit the complex outside matchdays.

Another proposed feature is infrastructure for concerts and live entertainment. A section of the stadium would be designed to accommodate musical performances and other events, potentially opening Can Misses to a wider range of cultural and entertainment activities.

The facilities could also include:

  • VIP hospitality areas.

  • Restaurants and commercial premises.

  • Renovated changing rooms.

  • An upgraded gym.

  • Spa facilities.

  • A possible residence for athletes.

  • Infrastructure for concerts and other live events.

These elements remain part of the preliminary proposal and may change as the technical and administrative work progresses.

The Current Agreement Remains in Force Until 2027

The discussions over a long-term concession build on an existing agreement signed in September 2025 by Ibiza Mayor Rafael Triguero and UD Ibiza president Amadeo Salvo.

That agreement regulates the club's use of the municipal Can Misses stadium and the central section of the Sánchez y Vivancos athletics track.

It remains valid until 30 June 2027, with the possibility of a further two-year extension.

Under the existing arrangement, Can Misses continues to serve as the main venue for UD Ibiza's official home matches and first-team training sessions.

Importantly, the stadium remains municipal property. The Town Council retains ownership and reserves the right to use the facilities occasionally for sporting and cultural activities.

The 2025 agreement also established a working group to examine the feasibility of a longer-term administrative concession that could allow the modernisation and expansion of the stadium within the municipality's urban planning framework.

Could the New Can Misses Strengthen Ibiza's Sporting and Entertainment Offer?

A modernised stadium could have implications beyond the future of UD Ibiza.

Improved facilities could strengthen the island's capacity to host professional football matches, while the proposed commercial and entertainment spaces could create additional uses for an important municipal site.

The possibility of hosting concerts and other live events is particularly significant for an island with an established international entertainment industry.

However, the redevelopment's wider benefits will depend on the final design, planning permissions, concession conditions and the way the municipal facilities are managed.

There are also questions that remain open, including the final investment, the annual concession fee, the legal structure of the agreement and the conditions under which the stadium could be used by other sporting organisations.

For now, the proposal remains under negotiation rather than an approved construction project.
