Ibiza's Island Fire Service carried out three emergency interventions during the early hours of Sunday, 1 November 2026, including the rescue of a man trapped on a coastal cliff and two separate fires involving vegetation remains.
The incidents required firefighters to remain on duty until approximately 07:00. None of the three operations resulted in serious consequences, according to reports published following the interventions.
Man Rescued from Cliffs Below Ibiza's Old Town
The rescue took place at around 04:40 to 04:45, when firefighters were called to assist a man who had descended onto a steep cliff area below Ibiza's historic centre and was unable to return to safety.
Reports differ on the precise location. One places the incident near the Santa Llúcia bastion within Dalt Vila's fortified area, while another identifies the cliffs leading down towards Debaix beach in sa Penya.
The accounts also give different estimates of the man's age and nationality. These details have therefore not been included as confirmed information.
According to the report published by Noudiari, the rescue involved three firefighters and a sergeant from the Island Fire Service's Vertical Rescue Group. Local Police and National Police officers also attended, alongside medical personnel from the 061 emergency service.
The operation ended successfully, with the man brought back to safety.
Two Fires Linked to Incompletely Extinguished Vegetation Burns
The rescue was the third intervention of the night. Earlier, firefighters had responded to two separate vegetation fires associated with burning activities that had not been fully extinguished.
The first call was reported at approximately 01:45 and the second at around 03:27, according to the published account of the incidents.
The reports identify areas around Santa Gertrudis and the road towards Santa Eulària, although they differ on which location corresponded to each fire. Both incidents were brought under control without serious consequences.
Emergency Teams Mobilised Until the Morning
The three incidents required the Island Fire Service to respond throughout the early hours, with the final operations concluding at approximately 07:00.
The night highlighted the risks associated with descending into steep coastal areas without a safe route back, as well as the importance of ensuring that vegetation-burning activities are completely extinguished before being left unattended.
Residents and visitors should avoid entering unstable cliff areas and should never leave a controlled burn without making sure the fire is fully out.
