Shakira Remembers Ibiza in Macondo Park: The Story Behind Her ‘Sale el Sol’ Album Cover

October 13, 2026

Shakira has revisited a special memory of Ibiza during a visit to the exhibition dedicated to her career at Macondo Park in Madrid. The Colombian singer stopped in front of a photograph taken on the island in 2010 by her friend and personal photographer, Jaume de la Iguana, which later became the cover of her album Sale el Sol.

The moment brought Ibiza back into the spotlight through one of the images associated with a significant period in the singer's career. Looking at the photograph, Shakira reflected on the memories it brought back, describing them as “Qué bellos momentos”, or “What beautiful moments”.

The Ibiza Photograph Behind ‘Sale el Sol’

The image dates from a photoshoot in Ibiza in 2010, captured by Jaume de la Iguana, a photographer and filmmaker who has collaborated with Shakira throughout much of her career.

The photograph later became the cover of Sale el Sol, the album released on 19 October 2010. The record included tracks such as ‘Loca’, ‘Rabiosa’ and the title song ‘Sale el Sol’.

During her visit to the exhibition, Shakira paused in front of the image and made a personal comment about the photograph, referring to her belly and a period of her life before becoming a mother.

Her reaction offered a glimpse into the memories associated with the photoshoot and the personal significance of images that have remained part of her visual history.

Ibiza's Presence in the Exhibition

The Sale el Sol album cover is not the only reference to Ibiza in the exhibition. The display also includes other photographs connected to the island, where Shakira has taken part in several photoshoots over the years.

The wider exhibition brings together photographs, stage costumes, videos, awards and other memorabilia, tracing different stages of her musical career. Work created with Jaume de la Iguana features among the visual material documenting her artistic evolution.

The photographs provide a reminder of the role that Ibiza has played in the singer's visual identity, with the island serving as the setting for images that have endured well beyond the moments in which they were created.

Macondo Park Celebrates Shakira's Career

Macondo Park, located in Madrid's Villaverde district, was created around Shakira's 2026 concert residency and expanded into a wider cultural destination celebrating Latin American music, art, fashion, literature and gastronomy.

The exhibition forms part of that broader experience, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the singer's career beyond her live performances.

For Ibiza, Shakira's visit offered another reminder of the island's connection to international music and photography. The image that became the cover of Sale el Sol continues to connect a memorable chapter in the singer's career with the island where it was captured.
