061 Emergency Technician Reports Assault During Patient Transfer in Santa Eulària

06 November 2026 г.

A 27-year-old emergency medical technician has reported being physically assaulted while attending an emergency call in Santa Eulària, Ibiza. The incident occurred on 28 October 2026, when the 061 team was attempting to transfer a woman to Hospital Can Misses.

According to the technician's account, the situation escalated during the intervention, with the woman allegedly kicking and spitting at members of the emergency team before grabbing the worker's right forearm and digging her fingernails into his skin.

The incident required the assistance of the Guardia Civil, whose officers accompanied the ambulance during the transfer to hospital.

Incident during an emergency response

The emergency call took place at a property in Santa Eulària on the evening of 28 October. Reports indicate that the emergency team attended alongside officers from the Guardia Civil and the Santa Eulària Local Police.

According to the technician, the situation became increasingly difficult as the team attempted to provide assistance and arrange the woman's transfer to hospital. The decision was eventually taken to transport her involuntarily to the emergency department at Can Misses.

The worker described how the situation escalated into physical aggression, with the woman allegedly kicking and spitting at members of the team.

Technician injured during ambulance transfer

The injury occurred after the woman had been transferred to the ambulance stretcher.

While the team was attempting to carry out routine monitoring, the technician approached to assist with placing a blood-pressure cuff. He says the woman grabbed his right forearm with considerable force and pressed her fingernails into his skin.

According to the medical report cited by La Voz de Ibiza, the injuries included linear abrasions and a haematoma on his forearm.

The technician subsequently attended the Santa Eulària health centre to receive medical attention.

Guardia Civil called to assist during the journey

The situation reportedly remained difficult after the ambulance left for Hospital Can Misses.

According to the technician's account, the woman managed to partially free herself from the mechanical restraints on two occasions. The ambulance was consequently forced to stop on the EI-200 road, where a Guardia Civil officer entered the patient compartment to assist the emergency team.

An officer accompanied the team during the remainder of the journey.

Complaint filed with the Guardia Civil

The technician reportedly filed a formal complaint at the Guardia Civil post in Santa Eulària on 29 October, the day after the incident.

La Voz de Ibiza reports that proceedings were opened in connection with an alleged offence of causing injury. The worker also said that the health service, IB-Salut, offered legal and medical support following the incident.

He explained that the experience had made him more cautious when attending patients in potentially difficult situations, although he did not intend to take sick leave.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the risks faced by emergency medical personnel when responding to calls outside controlled hospital environments, and the importance of protecting staff while they provide urgent care.
