Storm DANA Adam Sweeps Sun Loungers into the Sea at Ibiza's Cala Llenya as Residents Step In to Help

October 21, 2026

Strong winds and rough seas brought an unusual scene to Cala Llenya in Santa Eulària des Riu, Ibiza, during Storm DANA Adam, sweeping numerous beach sun loungers across the sand and into the sea. After a local resident raised the alarm, volunteers stepped in to help recover the scattered furniture.

The incident unfolded as heavy rain and strong winds affected Ibiza and Formentera from Sunday, 18 October, causing flooding and disruption in several parts of the islands.

Local Resident Raises the Alarm

Tati Acosta, a resident of the area, noticed the situation around midday on Monday, 19 October, and posted a message in a Facebook group seeking contact details for the people responsible for the beach furniture.

She explained that many of the sun loungers had been carried into the water, while others were scattered along the shoreline. Unable to find a telephone number for the beach establishment, she turned to the local community for help.

Her post brought attention to the situation and helped prompt efforts to retrieve the furniture before more items could drift away.

Volunteers Recover the Scattered Sun Loungers

The response came quickly. Around three hours after publishing her initial message, Acosta reported that volunteers had collected the sun loungers scattered across the beach.

However, she said it was still necessary to check the area around the landing point and a small neighbouring beach to see if any furniture remained there.

The recovery effort offered a positive outcome amid the wider disruption caused by the storm. The exact number of sun loungers recovered, and whether any were damaged or lost, was not established in the report.

DANA Adam Causes Disruption Across Ibiza and Formentera

The incident at Cala Llenya was one of the more unusual consequences of Storm DANA Adam, which brought intense rainfall and strong winds to the Pityusic Islands.

The Balearic Government reported numerous flooding incidents across Ibiza and Formentera, with emergency teams continuing recovery work on Tuesday, 20 October.

According to the Government's update that day, 388 incidents had been registered by the 112 Emergency Coordination Centre since the weather episode began on Saturday, 17 October. Of those, 36 remained open across Ibiza, Formentera and Mallorca.

Emergency personnel continued removing water and mud from affected areas while authorities monitored saturated ground and the condition of local waterways.

At Cala Llenya, meanwhile, the immediate response to the displaced beach furniture was helped by local residents who took action after the problem was brought to their attention.
