Ibiza PP Calls for Tax Cuts to Ease Cost of Living as Sant Antoni Meeting Highlights Housing and Public Investment

October 19, 2026

The Partido Popular (PP) in Ibiza has called for tax reductions to ease the cost of living for families, workers and businesses, during a pre-election meeting in Sant Antoni de Portmany on Friday, 16 October 2026. The event formed part of the party's Sa Força d’Eivissa tour ahead of the elections scheduled for 29 November.

José Vicente Marí Bosó, president of the PP in Ibiza, defended the economic proposals led by national party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo, arguing that households need greater relief from the cost of housing, energy and everyday essentials.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for Consell d’Eivissa president Vicent Marí and Sant Antoni mayor Marcos Serra to outline investments and municipal initiatives, including road improvements, public transport, policing, sports facilities and plans for public housing.

PP Proposes Changes to Income Tax and VAT

Marí Bosó called for a change in the Spanish Government's economic policy, arguing that economic growth should translate into greater purchasing power for families and businesses.

Among the measures he highlighted were adjusting personal income tax (IRPF) brackets for inflation, introducing tax deductions for children, reducing VAT on electricity to 10% and applying a zero VAT rate to basic and essential products.

The proposals form part of the PP's wider economic programme under Feijóo. They were presented as measures the party believes could ease financial pressure on households, particularly in Ibiza, where housing and everyday expenses are significant concerns.

The proposals should be distinguished from existing tax measures: the meeting did not itself introduce these changes into law.

More Than €10 Million in Investment Cited for Sant Antoni

Consell d’Eivissa president Vicent Marí outlined projects that he said represented more than €10 million in investment by the island council in Sant Antoni.

The initiatives he highlighted included the Vara de Rey boulevard, the des Caçadors roundabout, the recovery of the former Cine Torres, the planned cultural centre at Ses Nou Rodades and improvements to public transport.

He also pointed to progress on the planned renovation of the road connecting Sant Antoni and Sant Josep.

Looking towards the 29 November elections, Marí called for greater investment from Spain's central government in Ibiza's roads. He also argued that the airport should be modernised before any expansion plans proceed.

His remarks included concerns about migration pressures, which he identified as another issue requiring attention from the authorities.

The investment figure and descriptions of progress reflect statements made by Marí during the meeting.

Sant Antoni Highlights Policing, Sports and Public Housing

Mayor Marcos Serra reviewed measures undertaken during his administration, including changes to public safety, urban development, sports facilities and municipal services.

According to Serra, ten local police officers had been added, while 121 surveillance cameras had been installed across the municipality. He also cited investment exceeding €6 million in sports facilities.

Serra highlighted the municipality's new General Urban Development Plan (PGOU), which envisages more than 1,000 public homes.

The figure refers to housing provided for in the planning framework, rather than 1,000 completed homes ready for residents to occupy.

The mayor presented these measures as part of the municipality's efforts to improve local services and residents' quality of life.

Street Cleaning Remains a Challenge

Despite outlining several municipal initiatives, Serra acknowledged that street cleaning remains an unresolved challenge in Sant Antoni.

He said the town council was preparing new procurement specifications to strengthen the cleaning service with additional personnel and machinery. The plans also include assigning permanent cleaning staff to individual areas, including ses Païsses.

These measures remain planned improvements and should not be confused with changes already implemented.

A Pre-Election Tour Across Ibiza

The Sant Antoni meeting was part of Sa Força d’Eivissa, the PP's series of meetings with party members and supporters across the island ahead of the 29 November elections.

The event combined the party's national economic proposals with presentations by island and municipal representatives about investments and local initiatives.

With housing affordability, household expenses, infrastructure and public services among the issues discussed, the meeting offered an overview of the PP's priorities and its arguments for the next electoral campaign.
