Storm Adam: Emergency Flood Alert Sent Again to Mobiles Across Ibiza and Formentera

October 19, 2026

Residents and visitors in Ibiza and Formentera received another emergency mobile phone alert on Monday morning, 19 October, as Storm Adam continued to bring intense rainfall and an ongoing risk of flooding to the islands.

The ES-Alert message was sent shortly after 10:00, urging people to take immediate precautions against possible flooding and the overflowing of torrents. The renewed warning came after two alerts had been issued on Sunday as severe weather caused flooding and disruption across the Pitiusas.

What Did the Emergency Alert Tell People to Do?

The message warned of an imminent risk of flooding in Ibiza and Formentera, with heavy rainfall potentially causing torrents to overflow.

Residents and visitors were advised to:

  • Avoid underground areas, including basements and other spaces vulnerable to flooding.

  • Stay away from flood-prone areas and torrents.

  • Avoid unnecessary journeys and follow instructions from the emergency services.

  • If water enters a home, move to an upper floor if possible.

Authorities stressed the importance of taking these precautions even if rainfall temporarily eases, as conditions can deteriorate quickly during intense storms.

Northern Ibiza Faces Serious Flooding Concerns

The Balearic Government’s Director General of Emergencies, Pablo Gárriz, described the situation in northern Ibiza as particularly difficult, with intense and sudden downpours affecting areas including Santa Eulària and Sant Joan.

Some torrents had overflowed, leaving sections of roads flooded. Three roads were reported closed in the sa Cala area, while other secondary roads were affected by rising water.

Gárriz explained that the rainfall was occurring in highly active storm cells, making the location and intensity of individual downpours difficult to predict. Emergency officials said the situation was more intense than anticipated and urged people to avoid travel, particularly in the worst-affected areas.

Emergency Teams Continue Work After Sunday's Flooding

The latest alert followed a difficult Sunday across Ibiza and Formentera, when heavy rain flooded streets, commercial premises and ground-floor spaces, while disrupting road traffic and airport operations.

The Military Emergency Unit (UME) was also working in the Pitiusas to help recover premises and businesses affected by the previous day's flooding.

The continuing rainfall raised concerns about further flooding, particularly where torrents were already carrying large volumes of water and roads remained vulnerable to inundation.

Weather Warnings and Emergency Measures Remain Important

AEMET's meteorological warning level changed during Monday as the weather situation evolved. However, emergency officials emphasised that a change in the weather warning did not mean the flood risk had disappeared.

The authorities continued to monitor the situation under the relevant emergency and flood-response plans, with residents urged to follow official updates rather than assume that conditions were safe simply because the rain had eased.

Anyone in Ibiza or Formentera should avoid crossing flooded roads or torrents, whether on foot or by vehicle, and should never enter an underground area where water may accumulate.

With Storm Adam continuing to affect the islands, the priority remains protecting lives, avoiding unnecessary journeys and following instructions from emergency services.

Ibiza One Stop will continue to follow developments as the situation changes.
