British Tourist Dies After Falling Ill at Ibiza Club as Investigation Continues

October 03, 2026

A 53-year-old British tourist died after becoming unwell at a nightclub near Sant Antoni in the early hours of Sunday, 27 September, with an investigation now underway into the circumstances of his death.

The man was at the venue with a 52-year-old friend, also from the UK, when he began feeling unwell. Club staff moved him to a quieter area and emergency services were called.

When medical personnel arrived, the man was in cardiorespiratory arrest. Attempts were made to revive him, but he died at the scene. His body was removed at around 3am.

Incident Near Sant Antoni

The incident occurred at around 1:30am on Sunday, according to the Guardia Civil.

The two British tourists had been staying at a hotel in Cala de Bou, near Sant Antoni.

The nightclub has been identified by sources as 528 Ibiza, located in the Benimussa Hills area outside Sant Antoni. The venue itself has not been identified by the Guardia Civil in the public statement quoted by the media, so this identification should be treated as source-based rather than as an official confirmation.

Cause of Death Under Investigation

The precise cause of the man's death has not yet been established.

The Guardia Civil is investigating the circumstances, with testing and an autopsy forming part of the process. Investigators are examining, among other possibilities, whether alcohol or drugs may have played a role.

At this stage, it would be inaccurate to describe the death as a drug-related death or overdose. Any such conclusion would require the relevant medical and forensic findings.

Cadena SER reported that the autopsy results were still pending and that drug consumption was one of the hypotheses being considered by investigators.

Emergency Response

According to the Guardia Civil account reported by local media, club workers responded after the man complained that he was feeling unwell and moved him to a quieter section of the venue.

Emergency services subsequently attempted to resuscitate him, but he could not be revived.

The investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the death, including the medical cause.

Ibiza Club Deaths

The incident follows other recent deaths involving tourists in Ibiza, although each case is separate and should not be assumed to have the same cause.

In August, a 25-year-old Irish tourist died in Sant Antoni after becoming unwell in the area around the s'Arenal promenade. Guardia Civil sources subsequently linked that death to suspected drug consumption, although the forensic results were not publicly available at the time of reporting.

A separate incident in 2023 involved a 19-year-old who collapsed at Amnesia Ibiza and later died at Can Misses Hospital.

The latest case remains under investigation, and no definitive public conclusion has yet been given regarding the 53-year-old tourist's cause of death.
