The Local Police of Ibiza have removed a van that was allegedly being used for the illegal transport of passengers and imposed a €15,000 fine on its driver.

The intervention took place during a special enforcement operation carried out as part of the municipality's efforts to combat illegal passenger transport and other forms of transport-related intrusion.

Van Removed During Night Operation

According to information released by Ibiza Town Hall, officers detected the van during a night-time operation carried out from Friday into Saturday.

The vehicle was removed from circulation after police determined that it was operating irregularly in connection with passenger transport.

The driver was issued a proposed €15,000 sanction for unauthorised passenger transport.

Special 4º Turn Operation

The intervention formed part of the Policía Local de Ibiza's special 4º Turn reinforcement programme.

The operation is designed to strengthen police controls during periods of increased activity and includes targeted checks linked to road safety and illegal transport.

During the same night, officers also carried out a VTC control on Passeig Joan Carles I and checked whether drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts.

Three people were reported for failing to wear seat belts, with €300 in fines paid at the time.

62 Vehicles Checked

Earlier in the same week, the Local Police carried out another operation together with mobility inspectors from the Consell de Ibiza.

The Wednesday operation involved three control points around Ibiza Town, including Passeig Joan Carles I, Avenida de Santa Eulària and the area around Calle Fra Lluís de León.

A total of 62 vehicles were inspected and 16 reports were issued.

Among the incidents detected were one drug-related offence, one alcohol-related offence, 12 failures to use seat belts and two breaches linked to the island's vehicle-entry and circulation regulations.

The operation also resulted in criminal proceedings over an alleged road-safety offence after a driver exceeded the legally permitted alcohol limit.

Illegal Transport Under Increasing Scrutiny

The latest intervention comes amid intensified controls against illegal passenger transport in Ibiza.

Authorities have been increasing inspections of vehicles operating without the necessary authorisation, particularly during the busiest months of the tourism season.

The issue has become a recurring concern for the legal taxi and transport sector, which argues that unlicensed operators create unfair competition while passengers may not receive the same regulatory and safety protections.

€15,000 Sanction

The €15,000 sanction imposed in this latest case reflects the seriousness with which unauthorised passenger transport is treated under Balearic transport regulations.

The amount applies to the reported infringement and is separate from the other traffic and road-safety violations detected during the week's operations.

The vehicle itself was removed, preventing it from continuing to operate while the proceedings are processed.

Controls Continue in Ibiza

The Local Police says enforcement work against illegal transport will continue in coordination with the Consell de Ibiza.

The latest operation demonstrates that the controls are covering both suspected illegal passenger services and wider road-safety issues.
