Chiringuito Cala Escondida d’en Bossa, run by Tess Harmsen, has raised more than €3,600 for Nepal following a special solidarity event held in Ibiza on Thursday, September 10.

The fundraiser brought the Ibiza community together through live music, a raffle and other fundraising initiatives to support people affected by the devastating floods that struck parts of Nepal in August, while also continuing a school project that the Ibiza community has supported for years.

The event was organised in collaboration with AmaVida ONGD, continuing a relationship between Cala Escondida and the organisation that has now lasted around a decade.

According to figures reported about the collaboration, Cala Escondida’s various fundraising initiatives generate around €20,000 per year for AmaVida’s work in Nepal, demonstrating the scale of the long-running connection.

The fundraiser also comes during a significant year for Cala Escondida itself, which has moved to a new location after 11 seasons at Racó d’en Xic near Cala Comte.

The Fundraiser Brought Music and Solidarity Together

The September 10 event began in the early evening at Cala Escondida at the southern end of Platja d’en Bossa, opposite the Torre de sa Sal Rossa.

Live music was provided by Mbolo Mooye Doole, while a raffle and other fundraising activities encouraged visitors to contribute to the cause.

More than €3,600 was ultimately raised during the afternoon and evening, with the money supporting humanitarian assistance following the floods while also contributing to AmaVida’s continuing educational work in Nepal.

The event continued a tradition of using Cala Escondida’s community atmosphere to raise money for projects far beyond Ibiza.

This Year’s Fundraising Comes After a Major Disaster in Nepal

The campaign gained additional urgency following severe flash floods that struck parts of central Nepal on August 26.

The World Health Organization reports that communities along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors were affected, with Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan in Bagmati Province, as well as Gorkha and Tanahun in Gandaki Province, among the affected districts.

The flooding damaged homes, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure, while thousands of households were reported to need immediate relief. WHO also noted that the flooding in Rasuwa followed a sudden surge of water into the Bhote Koshi River from the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, potentially linked to an upstream ice avalanche and temporary damming. Assessments of the full impact have continued.

The disaster added an emergency dimension to AmaVida’s existing long-term work in Nepal.

AmaVida Supports Communities Beyond the School Project

AmaVida is a Spanish non-profit organisation working on projects supporting children and families in Nepal.

Its work is centred particularly on Nala, a community approximately 30 kilometres east of Kathmandu, where it has developed projects involving education, food, transport and infrastructure.

The organisation began its work in the region following the 2015 earthquake, initially focusing on the reconstruction of a school.

Over time, its activities expanded to include a school food programme, transport and other initiatives designed to improve the lives of children and their families.

The School Currently Supports Around 300 Children

One important part of the longstanding Ibiza-Nepal connection is the school in Nala.

AmaVida currently says its work reaches around 300 children from the local community, providing education as well as a daily meal through its food programme.

The school also plays an important role within the wider community because access to food, education and transport can directly affect children's ability to remain in education.

The project has therefore developed into a long-term programme rather than simply remaining a post-earthquake rebuilding effort.

Ibiza Has Helped Support the Project for Years

AmaVida was created to channel assistance towards specific projects in Nepal, while volunteers and donors from Spain became involved in the rebuilding effort.

The school in Nala became one of the organisation’s central projects, with investment subsequently extending to food, infrastructure and transport.

Cala Escondida’s support developed within that wider effort and has continued through different seasons and fundraising initiatives.

AmaVida’s current work includes a food programme providing children with a daily hot vegetarian meal.

The 2026 fundraiser also comes during a new chapter for Cala Escondida.

After 11 seasons at Racó d’en Xic near Cala Comte, the beach bar moved to its new location at the southern end of Platja d’en Bossa for the 2026 season, close to the Torre de sa Sal Rossa.

The move followed the redistribution of beach concessions in Sant Josep, meaning the Cala Escondida team could no longer continue operating at its former location.

Rather than disappearing from Ibiza’s coastline, the team found a new home and brought the Cala Escondida concept with them.

The September fundraiser demonstrates that the charitable side of the project has continued despite the move.
