€2.25 Million Investment to Improve Benirràs Road and Build New Vial in Sant Miquel

08 October 2026 г.

The Consell d’Eivissa is providing €2.25 million in funding for two infrastructure projects in the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja, covering improvements to the road serving Benirràs and the opening and urbanisation of a new road in Sant Miquel de Balansat.

The combined contribution amounts to €2,256,219.51 and forms part of the island's 2026 Plan for Cooperation in Municipal Works and Services.

The agreement has been signed by Consell d’Eivissa president Vicent Marí and Sant Joan de Labritja mayor Tania Marí, with the participation of Maria Fajarnés, councillor for Economic Promotion, Municipal Cooperation and Human Resources.

Improvements to the Benirràs Road

The first project focuses on the municipal road connecting Cala de Benirràs with the roundabout from which the roads towards Sant Miquel and Sant Joan de Labritja branch off.

The project has a total budget of €1,140,861.91, of which the Consell will contribute a maximum of €798,603.33.

The works will rehabilitate sections of the road surface where deficiencies have been identified.

They will also include improvements to transverse drainage infrastructure, designed to address water management along the road.

Another element of the project is the improvement of pedestrian access between the parking areas and Benirràs beach.

The aim is therefore not simply to resurface the road, but also to improve drainage and pedestrian connections around one of the municipality's best-known coastal areas.

A New Vial in Sant Miquel

The second project concerns Vial J, a planned new road within the urban centre of Sant Miquel de Balansat.

The Consell's maximum contribution to this project is €1,457,616.18. The project involves opening, urbanising and providing the necessary services for the new road.

The intervention includes measures related to mobility and accessibility, together with the installation of the infrastructure and services required for the new urban area.

The Vial J project is intended to provide a new connection within the village and has been part of the municipality's urban planning process for several years. The project had previously been put out to tender with a separate construction budget, so the €1.46 million figure should be understood specifically as the Consell's maximum contribution under this funding agreement.

Combined Investment of €2.25 Million From the Consell

The two projects together receive a maximum of €2,256,219.51 from the Consell d’Eivissa.

The funding is divided as follows:

  • Benirràs road: maximum Consell contribution of €798,603.33

  • Vial J in Sant Miquel: maximum Consell contribution of €1,457,616.18

  • Combined Consell contribution: €2,256,219.51

The figures demonstrate why the €2.25 million headline should be understood as the island council's combined contribution rather than the total value of both construction projects.

Improving Mobility and Accessibility

The two projects address different infrastructure needs within the Sant Joan municipality.

At Benirràs, the focus is on repairing the existing road, improving drainage and making pedestrian access to the beach safer and more practical.

In Sant Miquel, Vial J will create a new urban road and provide the associated infrastructure and services.

Together, the projects are intended to improve mobility and accessibility while addressing existing infrastructure deficiencies.

Part of the 2026 Municipal Cooperation Plan

The funding comes through the Consell's 2026 Plan for Cooperation in Municipal Works and Services, which provides financial support for projects carried out within the island's municipalities.

The agreement between the Consell and Sant Joan de Labritja formalises the funding for these two specific projects.

The Benirràs road works and the Vial J development therefore represent separate interventions financed through the same municipal cooperation framework.
