Sant Joan de Labritja has put out to tender a €335,854 project to create a new Information and Services Office in the surroundings of the Cova des Culleram, with the aim of improving visitor services at one of the municipality's archaeological sites.

The contract has a base tender budget of €335,854.32 including VAT and establishes an 11-month period for the works.

Project Near the Cova des Culleram

The new facility will be built in the area surrounding the Cova des Culleram rather than inside the archaeological cave itself.

The project involves the construction of a new building designed to provide a dedicated point for information and basic visitor services.

The planned facility will include a public reception and information area, a small storage room, a porch and toilets.

Works Included in the Project

The tender covers the complete construction of the building and the associated infrastructure.

According to the project description, the works include preparation of the site, earthworks, foundations, structural elements, walls and enclosures, roofing, carpentry, installations and sanitation systems.

The contract also includes finishing works, equipment, internal urbanisation, waste management, quality control and health and safety measures.

Photovoltaic System Planned

The building is also designed to include a photovoltaic system.

This forms part of the technical project alongside the electrical installations and other services required for the new facility.

The inclusion of solar generation is intended to provide an energy component within the design of the new building.

Tender Process Now Open

The project is currently at the public procurement stage.

The contract is being processed through an open simplified procedure, and interested companies can submit their offers electronically through Spain's Public Sector Procurement Platform.

The deadline for submitting bids is September 30, 2026 at 14:00.

At this stage, the contract has not yet been awarded, so construction should not be described as having started.

An Important Archaeological Site

The Cova des Culleram is one of Ibiza's important archaeological sites in the north of the island.

Official Ibiza heritage information identifies it as a Punic sanctuary and states that it was discovered in 1907 by the Societat Arqueològica Ebusitana.

The cave has a limestone formation consisting of two large chambers divided into smaller spaces by stalagmite formations.

The heritage record states that the cave had an earlier occupation and was later used as a place of worship during the Punic period between the 5th and 2nd centuries BC.

Located in Sant Vicent de sa Cala

The archaeological site is located in the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja, in the area of Sant Vicent de sa Cala.

The planned information facility is intended to improve the services available around the site and provide visitors with a dedicated area for information and basic amenities.

The project therefore combines visitor infrastructure with the surroundings of one of Ibiza's protected archaeological heritage locations.

Improving Visitor Services at Es Culleram
