A 38-year-old British man has been arrested in Ibiza on suspicion of reckless driving after allegedly fleeing a Guardia Civil checkpoint and continuing to drive dangerously towards Santa Eulària.

The incident took place at around 6:30am on September 4, when traffic officers were carrying out an alcohol and drug control on the road between Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni de Portmany, close to nightlife venues.

According to the Guardia Civil, the driver ignored officers’ signals to stop and fled at high speed, putting the officers at serious risk.

He was later located at a hotel in Santa Eulària and arrested.

Driver Fled a Guardia Civil Checkpoint

The incident began during an early-morning traffic control designed to check drivers for alcohol and drugs.

Officers from the Ibiza Traffic Detachment attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly ignored their instructions and accelerated away.

The Guardia Civil said the escape placed the officers at serious risk and immediately triggered an investigation to identify and locate the driver.

The incident occurred on the road connecting Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni, one of the island’s main routes through areas with a high concentration of nightlife activity.
