Carl Cox Teases Another New Remix as His Ibiza Studio Run Continues

September 13, 2026

Carl Cox is continuing an especially productive period in the studio, with the Ibiza DJ and producer now teasing another new remix shortly after releasing his rework of “Legacy”.

The latest project sees Cox reinterpret Renegade Soundwave's 1989 classic “The Phantom”, a track he has reportedly long counted among his favourite records.

The new version is scheduled for release on September 24 through Jack Said What.

Carl Cox Reworks The Phantom

Cox's new version is being described as a “rewire” rather than a conventional remix.

He was the first artist recruited for the Renegade Soundwave Rewired project, which brings a number of artists into the studio to reinterpret tracks from the group's back catalogue.

Cox's version of “The Phantom” has been kept largely under wraps until now, although he has already been playing it during festival appearances and at his Sunday residency at [UNVRS] Ibiza.

According to the latest details, the track runs at 130 BPM and gives the original's breakbeat and industrial character a heavier contemporary club treatment.

A 1989 Favourite Gets a New Life

Renegade Soundwave emerged from the UK electronic music scene in the late 1980s, developing a sound that incorporated breakbeats, bass, dub, industrial textures and punk influences.

“The Phantom” was originally released in 1989 and has remained an important reference point for followers of that sound.

Cox's long-standing appreciation for the track made him a natural choice for the rework.

The new version retains the spirit of the original while bringing it into Cox's modern DJ sets and production style.

The Track Has Already Been Tested in Ibiza

Before its official release, Cox has been using the rework during his 2026 Ibiza residency at [UNVRS].

That has given audiences the opportunity to hear the track months, or in this case weeks, before its general release.

Its repeated appearance during the residency has also helped build anticipation around the official version, with clips from Cox's sets helping spread the track among fans.

Another Release After Legacy

The Phantom follows another new Carl Cox remix that has already become closely associated with Ibiza this summer.

His reworking of Vikthor and Pianoalani's “Legacy” was officially released through his own Intec label on September 4 after becoming a regular feature of his sunrise sessions at [UNVRS].

That remix moves between melodic techno, progressive house and trance at 130 BPM, while retaining the emotional character of the original.

The track quickly became one of the most recognisable moments of Cox's 2026 Ibiza sets.

A Busy Studio Period

The two releases underline how active Cox has been creatively during the current season.

After releasing “Legacy” earlier this month, he is now preparing “The Phantom” for September, with further work apparently already in development.

The latest teaser has also prompted speculation about what other unreleased material Cox may have prepared while spending the summer testing new music at [UNVRS].
