Ibiza Town turned Avenida de Isidor Macabich into a temporary car-free space on Sunday, September 20, as cyclists, families and visitors took part in the 2026 Día del Pedal and European Mobility Day celebrations.

The event, organised by Ibiza Town Hall, combined cycling routes with children's activities, mobility workshops, sports, music and road-safety initiatives, giving the avenue a different role for several hours.

A Morning on Two Wheels

The Día del Pedal began with registrations between 09:00 and 10:00 in Avenida de Isidor Macabich.

At 10:30, the main urban cycling circuit of 13 kilometres set off, followed at 11:00 by a six-kilometre children's route for youngsters aged between eight and 11 and their accompanying adults.

An additional 800-metre route was organised at 11:20 for younger children riding tricycles and four-wheeled bicycles.

Isidor Macabich Without Cars

One of the most visible elements of the day was the closure of Avenida de Isidor Macabich to motor traffic.

The road remained closed between 07:00 and 19:00, temporarily converting one of Ibiza Town's main urban arteries into space for cycling, walking, recreation and organised activities.

The daytime programme itself ran from 10:00 to 18:00.

Activities Beyond Cycling

The event extended well beyond the cycling routes.

Visitors could take part in bicycle maintenance workshops, a road-safety circuit and a skating area organised with Ibiza Patina. There was also a large mobility gymkhana, a second-hand market for bicycles and scooters, sports activities and information points connected with sustainable mobility and inclusion.

Family-Focused Programme

Children were central to the day's activities.

Alongside the two children's cycling options, the programme included entertainment, educational activities and mobility-themed games designed for different age groups.

The organisers also included an inclusion initiative and activities intended to introduce younger participants to safer and more sustainable ways of moving around the city.

Traditional Culture and Live Music

The programme also brought elements of Ibiza's cultural and entertainment scene onto Isidor Macabich.

A ball pagès performance by Colla Sa Bodega was scheduled during the morning, followed by zumba and fitness sessions.

Live music was also part of the programme, with the group Esta me la sé performing in the afternoon.

Prize Draws

Participants in the Día del Pedal also had the opportunity to enter a prize draw.

Bicycles and other prizes were drawn at 13:30, while a second prize draw connected with the Gran Gimcana de la Mobilitat was scheduled for 17:30.

Promoting Sustainable Mobility

The event formed part of Ibiza Town's wider European Mobility Day programme, which focused on sustainable transport, road safety, inclusion, sport and healthier habits.

Municipal Mobility Councillor Rubén Sousa said the event was intended to demonstrate that there are different ways to move around the city and that sustainable mobility also involves education and changes in everyday habits.

A Different View of a Main City Avenue

With traffic temporarily removed, Isidor Macabich became a space for activities that would normally be difficult to organise alongside regular vehicle movements.

The day offered residents and families the chance to cycle along an urban route, participate in activities and use part of the city in a different way.

Part of European Mobility Day

The Día del Pedal was incorporated into this year's European Mobility Day programme rather than taking place as an isolated cycling event.

That allowed the traditional bicycle-focused activity to sit alongside demonstrations, workshops, inclusive activities and other initiatives promoting alternatives to private car use.

A Day for All Ages

From the 13-kilometre main route to the 800-metre circuit for the youngest participants, the programme offered different options according to age and ability.

The combination of cycling, education, sport, entertainment and mobility activities made the September 20 event a broader community day rather than simply a bicycle ride.

Ibiza Celebrates on Two Wheels

The 2026 Día del Pedal gave cyclists and families several hours to enjoy Isidor Macabich without normal motor traffic, while the surrounding programme highlighted sustainable mobility and community participation.

The event ended at 18:00, although the avenue remained closed to traffic until 19:00, bringing the day of activities to a close after a full Sunday of cycling, sport and family entertainment in Ibiza Town.
