A serious-looking collision between a truck and a car caused major disruption on the Inca motorway in Mallorca on Friday, September 18, after the car ended up beneath the heavy vehicle.

The 40-year-old driver of the car was injured and was taken by ambulance to a private clinic in Palma. According to the 061 emergency medical service, his injuries were classified as less serious.

The crash also caused substantial traffic congestion in the direction of Inca, with later reports putting the queues at more than five kilometres.

The collision happened around midday

The accident occurred on the Ma-13 during the late morning.

Europa Press, citing the DGT, reported that the collision took place at around 11:30 at kilometre 12 of the motorway in the direction of Inca. The initial traffic information reported queues of approximately 2.5 kilometres between around kilometre 9 and the accident location.

Later reports said the congestion had grown considerably, eventually exceeding five kilometres.

The car was pushed off the road

According to the subsequent account, the truck and car collided, with the impact pushing the smaller vehicle towards the roadside.

The car struck a guardrail, left the carriageway and overturned.

The truck remained partly on the motorway, occupying part of the left-hand lane close to the Santa Maria exit.

Images from the scene showed the car in an extremely compromised position beneath or alongside the heavy vehicle, explaining the particularly dramatic appearance of the crash.

The driver managed to get out

Despite the severity of the collision, the driver of the car was able to get out of the vehicle without being trapped.

He was subsequently treated by emergency medical personnel and transported to a private medical centre in Palma.

The 061 emergency service classified his condition as less serious.

The available reports do not indicate any fatality resulting from this collision.

Emergency services attended the scene

Several ambulances and Guardia Civil traffic officers were sent to the accident site.

The authorities had to secure the area while the vehicles were dealt with and traffic was managed.
