Three projects developed in the Pitiusas have been recognised at the first Suministros Ibiza Architecture and Construction Awards, with Estudio Kismet, Ecodisseny and MGAG Arquitectos taking the honours across the competition's three categories.

The awards ceremony was held on Thursday, September 17, at Club Diario de Ibiza, bringing together professionals from architecture, construction and interior design alongside representatives of the islands' institutions.

Three categories, three winning projects

The inaugural awards covered three categories: Best Residential Project, Best Spatial Design and Interior Design Project, and Best Hospitality Project.

Estudio Kismet won the residential category for the renovation and rehabilitation of nine homes in Ibiza's Sa Penya neighbourhood.

Ecodisseny received the award for Best Spatial Design and Interior Design Project for Sa Mirada.

MGAG Arquitectos won the Best Hospitality Project category for Hotel Bonito Ibiza.

Estudio Kismet recognised for Sa Penya renovation

The residential award went to Estudio Kismet for a project involving the refurbishment and rehabilitation of nine homes in Sa Penya.

The project had previously been presented in the context of the COAIB's architecture awards, where Estudio Kismet architect Noemí Rodríguez described the work as a major undertaking that took place over several years and involved a large team.

The recognition places the rehabilitation of housing in one of Ibiza's historic neighbourhoods among the three projects selected by the inaugural Suministros Ibiza jury.

Ecodisseny wins for Sa Mirada

Ecodisseny was awarded the prize for Best Spatial Design and Interior Design Project for Sa Mirada.

The project is located in Ibiza and has also been documented as an interior and technology-focused residential project. Available project information dates Sa Mirada to 2025.

The award recognises the project within a category that brings together interior design and the wider organisation of architectural space.

MGAG Arquitectos wins for Hotel Bonito Ibiza

The hospitality award went to MGAG Arquitectos for Hotel Bonito Ibiza in Sant Antoni de Portmany.

Suministros Ibiza's project information describes Bonito Ibiza as a completed 13,425 m² hospitality project designed by MGAG Arquitectos.

The company also participated directly in the project, supplying elements including the ceramic brick latticework used across the hotel's 250 rooms, as well as bar cladding, shower trays and tiling.

A competition focused on the Pitiusas

The awards were created to recognise completed architecture, construction and interior-design projects carried out in Ibiza or Formentera.

According to the official rules, eligible projects had to have been completed between October 2025 and June 2026, making the awards specifically focused on recently completed work rather than long-established projects.

The first edition therefore provides a snapshot of projects completed across the islands during that period.

A jury combining professional and institutional expertise

The winners were selected by a four-member jury.

It included Lluís Oliva i Munar, president of the College of Architects of Ibiza and Formentera, and María del Mar Pacheco, president of the College of Quantity Surveyors of Ibiza and Formentera.

Pedro Cardona, director general of Suministros Ibiza, was also part of the jury, together with Mariano Juan Colomar, vice-president of the Consell d'Eivissa and councillor responsible for territory, tourism planning, mobility, road infrastructure and the fight against illegal activity.

What the jury assessed

The competition was designed to look beyond visual appearance alone.

The published criteria included creativity and originality of the design, integration into the surrounding environment, innovative construction and technical solutions, efficiency of installations and the use of pioneering materials.

The organisers also emphasised the relationship between design, construction, sustainability and Mediterranean identity.

Recognition for Ibiza's construction sector

During the ceremony, Suministros Ibiza director general Pedro Cardona said the awards were created as a way of encouraging good practice and inspiring future generations of professionals.

The company has more than six decades of experience working with architects, quantity surveyors, engineers, interior designers, developers and construction companies in Ibiza and Formentera.

The awards are intended to give greater visibility to that professional network and create a space for discussion around the future of architecture and construction on the islands.

Stone from Ibiza used for the awards

Each winning studio received an award made from Ibiza stone.

According to Suministros Ibiza, the stone was extracted by hand from the company's own quarry and worked by its master stonemasons.

The material was chosen as a direct connection to the territory and reflects the competition's emphasis on combining contemporary design with the identity of the islands.

Architecture shaped by a limited territory

The awards ceremony also focused on the particular conditions of working in the Pitiusas.

Mariano Juan Colomar highlighted what he described as the islands' technical, architectural and construction talent and pointed to the challenge of introducing new construction techniques while respecting traditional roots, typologies and the limited nature of the territory.

His comments reflect the Consell's perspective on the balance between innovation and local architectural identity.

Bonito Ibiza represents a recently transformed hotel project

The recognition of Bonito Ibiza comes less than two years after work began on the transformation of the building.

The hotel was created through a major refurbishment project between March 2024 and June 2025, with MGAG Arquitectos and Barcelona-based design studio Futur2 involved in the redesign. Bonito Ibiza opened in 2025.

The completed project combines the hotel accommodation with public and hospitality spaces including its Cielito restaurant, rooftop and spa.

Sa Mirada reflects a longer development process

Sa Mirada also has a longer project history than the 2025 completion date might suggest.

Available project information says the project began in 2014 and developed over more than a decade, with the final result combining architectural work with integrated technology, lighting and renewable-energy systems.

The awards recognise the completed project within the 2025-2026 competition period.

Sa Penya project focuses on rehabilitation

The Estudio Kismet project offers a different approach, centred on the rehabilitation of nine existing homes in Sa Penya rather than the development of a new hospitality complex.

The project had already attracted attention within Ibiza's architectural community, with the team describing the complexity and length of the rehabilitation work when it was selected for another professional architecture exhibition.

Its inclusion among the winners highlights the role of rehabilitation alongside new construction and interior transformation.

The three winners represent different sectors

The three winning projects cover very different areas of the built environment.

Estudio Kismet's project focuses on residential rehabilitation.

Ecodisseny's Sa Mirada sits within interior and spatial design.

The awards aim to create new professional references

The organisers say the purpose of the awards goes beyond giving prizes to individual projects.

They want the competition to help identify new professional references and encourage discussion around design, technical innovation, construction, sustainability and the character of the Pitiusas.

That objective is particularly relevant in an island setting where land and resources are limited and construction has a direct relationship with the local landscape and architectural heritage.

Projects had to be completed by June 2026

The first edition was open to projects completed between October 2025 and June 2026.

Entries closed on July 20, followed by a preselection phase in July before the September 17 awards ceremony.

The competition was therefore based on completed work rather than proposals still in planning or construction.

Suministros Ibiza launches the awards as an annual platform

The inaugural ceremony establishes the Suministros Ibiza Architecture and Construction Awards as a new platform for recognising work in the Pitiusas.

The company says the initiative is designed to bring greater attention to the professionals behind residential, hospitality and interior projects and to encourage further exchange across the sector.

The first edition has now concluded with three winning projects selected from the submitted work.
