Driver Under Investigation After Drunk-Driving Collision with Car Carrying Two Children in Mallorca

October 13, 2026

A 55-year-old driver is under investigation after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol on the wrong side of the road and colliding head-on with a car carrying a woman and her two young children in Palma, Mallorca.

The collision occurred at approximately 21:15 on 3 October on Camí de Can Palou. The woman and both children were taken by ambulance to a private clinic for medical assessment, according to information released by Palma Local Police.

Driver Allegedly Entered the Wrong Side of the Road

According to the police account, the woman was driving towards Pont d’Inca when she saw another car approaching directly towards her in the same lane.

The other driver, a 55-year-old Brazilian national travelling towards Camí Vell de Sineu, was reportedly driving on the left side of the road because he mistakenly believed it was a one-way street.

The vehicles approached each other so suddenly that neither driver had time to take evasive action before the head-on collision.

The emergency call alerted police to the crash and reported smoke coming from the engine of one of the vehicles.

Alcohol Test Recorded 0.75 mg/l

Officers from the Local Police’s Accident Vehicle Unit attended the scene, secured the area and assisted those involved.

Police said the driver showed signs of having consumed alcohol. A breathalyser test recorded 0.75 milligrams of alcohol per litre of exhaled air, a level above the threshold for a suspected criminal road-safety offence.

The woman driving the other car recorded a negative result.

Driver Investigated, Not Arrested

The 55-year-old man was informed that he was under investigation, but had not been arrested, on suspicion of a road-safety offence.

The police forwarded the case documents to the duty investigating section of the Court of First Instance.

The woman and her two children were taken to a private clinic for medical assessment. The available reports do not specify the final medical findings.

The case remains a reported investigation, and no conviction has been reported in connection with the incident.
