A Spanish content creator has shared his surprise at the spending power and polished image of some visitors he encountered in Ibiza, describing the experience as a striking contrast to his own budget-conscious trip around the island.

Jesús Romero, who publishes content on Instagram under the name @jesusromerx, documented his experience after spending six days travelling alone in Ibiza. In a video, he joked that the people around him appeared so wealthy that he felt like a “beggar” by comparison.

Backpacking on a Budget in Ibiza

Romero contrasted his own travelling setup, which included a tripod and backpack, with the yachts, designer clothing and restaurant experiences he saw around him.

While some visitors appeared to be enjoying expensive meals and activities, he said he was buying food at Mercadona and travelling with limited spending money.

His comments were delivered with a mixture of humour and genuine surprise, reflecting the difference between his budget and the lifestyle he observed in some of the island’s more glamorous settings.

The Moment at Benirràs

One of the moments that stood out to Romero happened at Benirràs, where he wanted to rent a small boat or a paddleboard to get closer to Es Cap Bernat, the distinctive rocky islet just offshore.

He said he abandoned the plan after realising that he could not afford the rental.

His reaction became even more animated when he noticed another visitor undertaking an activity with a dog. The contrast between what he could afford and what someone else appeared able to spend became the focus of his commentary.

Romero also commented on the appearance and styling of people he encountered along the coast, joking about a couple whose pose reminded him of a scene from Titanic.

His recurring description of himself as a “beggar” was delivered ironically, highlighting the contrast between his backpacking experience and the image of luxury he associated with parts of Ibiza.
