Toby Clarke, founder of Ibiza Outdoors, will set off on his final Around the Island Ibiza Adventure as lead guide on October 1, bringing a personal chapter that began 16 years ago to a close.

Clarke first walked around Ibiza's coastline in October 2010 with his dog Cosmo, carrying food for his first day and just €1 in his pocket. That journey covered more than 200 kilometres over 11 days and ultimately inspired the creation of Walking Ibiza, the company that has since evolved into Ibiza Outdoors.

The journey that started it all

In 2010, Clarke set out to follow Ibiza's coastline with Cosmo and no commercial plan behind the adventure.

According to Ibiza Outdoors, he returned after 11 days with the same €1 still in his pocket. The experience led people to ask him to guide them around the island and share the places he had discovered.

That interest eventually developed into Walking Ibiza, which grew into the broader Ibiza Outdoors operation.

The company now offers hiking, kayaking, e-bike tours, community walks, group activities and multi-day adventures, while the Around the Island experience remains closely connected to its origins.

Clarke's 14th and final time as lead guide

The October 2026 adventure will be Clarke's 14th time leading the Around the Island journey.

The company says this will be his final edition as lead guide, but it is not the end of the Around the Island experience itself.

Future Ibiza editions will continue with other Ibiza Outdoors guides, while Clarke will remain involved in other walks and experiences. The company also runs Around the Island adventures in Formentera and Menorca.

An 11-day journey around Ibiza

The 2026 Around the Island Ibiza Adventure is scheduled for October 1 to 11.

Participants will walk around the island's coastline over 11 days, covering approximately 260 kilometres at around 25 kilometres per day.

The programme involves approximately six to eight hours of walking each day, with participants staying in hotels rather than camping. A support vehicle transfers luggage between overnight stops, allowing walkers to carry only a day pack.

The route begins in Ibiza Town and follows the coastline through different parts of the island before returning towards the capital for the final stage.

A very different journey from 2010

The current adventure is considerably more supported than Clarke's original 2010 expedition.

Ibiza Outdoors provides accommodation, transfers, food, professional guiding and a support vehicle. The company also includes a celebration dinner at the end of the journey.

The original journey, by contrast, was a personal expedition undertaken with Cosmo and minimal resources.

That contrast is part of what makes the 2026 edition significant for the company, as Clarke returns to the route that helped shape its beginnings.

The adventure will continue

Clarke's decision to step away from leading the full Around the Island adventure does not mean the route is being retired.

Ibiza Outdoors says future trips will continue with members of its guiding team.

The company currently lists another Ibiza Around the Island adventure for October 7-17, 2027, priced at €3,200 per person on a twin-share basis, showing that the experience is continuing beyond Clarke's final lead-guide edition.

From one personal challenge to an Ibiza outdoor business

What began in 2010 as Clarke's own journey around Ibiza's coastline developed into a business built around experiencing the island on foot and through other outdoor activities.

The company has continued to expand beyond walking, but Clarke's original route remains at the centre of the Around the Island adventure.

On October 1, he will begin that route once again, this time leading it for the final time.

The adventure is scheduled to finish on October 11, after 11 days and approximately 260 kilometres around Ibiza's coastline.
