SLUIZ Is Coming Back: Ibiza’s Iconic Design Store Set for a New Chapter

One of Ibiza’s most recognisable and eccentric design destinations is making a comeback.
SLUIZ is being revived under new ownership, with plans for a new Ibiza location and a fresh creative direction that aims to bring the much-loved concept store back to the island.
The revival was revealed by Ibiza Property Journal on August 29, 2026, following the acquisition of the SLUIZ brand by Leticia La Valle and her husband. The new team is now preparing the next chapter of the brand, with the new store expected to open in 2027, pending the necessary paperwork for its new location.
For longtime Ibiza visitors, the news marks the return of a brand that became almost synonymous with the island's more colourful and unconventional side.
A New Beginning for an Ibiza Icon
SLUIZ became famous for its maximalist approach to interiors, design and shopping.
The original concept went far beyond a conventional furniture or homeware store. Visitors could find an eclectic mix of furniture, fashion, art, home accessories, food and unusual decorative objects, all presented in an intentionally theatrical environment.
Perhaps its most recognisable feature was the collection of life-sized brightly coloured cows outside the store, which became a favourite photo opportunity for visitors and one of SLUIZ's defining visual symbols.
The brand developed a reputation for combining humour, colour and deliberately unexpected design, eventually becoming known as the “world's wackiest concept store.”
Its appeal extended beyond tourists. SLUIZ became part of Ibiza's wider creative and design community, with its distinctive pieces appearing in the homes of prominent designers and creatives.
What Happened to the Original SLUIZ?
The comeback follows a turbulent few years for the brand.
SLUIZ's original location near Santa Gertrudis was ordered to close by Santa Eulària Town Hall in July 2024 after authorities determined that the activity being carried out at the premises did not comply with its licence.
The municipality cited licensing issues as well as other concerns surrounding the property. The original store was given 48 hours to close.
SLUIZ subsequently announced that it would reopen in a new location across the road from the former premises, attempting to keep the brand alive after the closure.
That was not the end of the story, however.
According to Ibiza Property Journal, SLUIZ subsequently relocated and went through two closures, leaving many loyal customers wondering whether the iconic brand had disappeared for good.
A June 2026 report described the previous company as having announced its definitive closure after almost two decades associated with Ibiza.
Now, however, the brand is being brought back under new ownership.
The Blue Cows Are Coming Back
For fans of the original SLUIZ, perhaps the most exciting part of the revival is that the new owners are not abandoning the elements that made the brand instantly recognisable.
The famous blue cows are set to return, alongside another SLUIZ favourite: the mischievous decorative dwarves.
The new creative team says the intention is not simply to recreate the old store, but to develop SLUIZ for a new generation while retaining its unmistakable personality.
The new concept is expected to combine home, fashion, design and food, with the same playful and unexpected approach that made the original destination so distinctive.
A New Vision for SLUIZ
Leading the revival is Leticia La Valle, who was previously a customer of SLUIZ before becoming its new creative leader and owner alongside her husband.
La Valle says the new SLUIZ will maintain the brand's colourful and unconventional identity while introducing new designers, makers and creatives.
The ambition goes beyond creating another shop.
The new owners envision SLUIZ as a year-round creative universe, with both online and physical elements and collaborations with artists and creatives based in Ibiza.
The team has already begun building those connections.
In 2026, SLUIZ announced a collaboration with the ROLA Film Festival, becoming one of the sponsors of the event's programme across Ibiza. The collaboration took place before the new store had even reopened, signalling the owners' intention to reconnect the brand with Ibiza's creative community from the beginning.
The future vision could include art exhibitions, creative collaborations and small cultural events, turning SLUIZ into more than simply a place to shop.
When Will SLUIZ Reopen?
The new SLUIZ is not open yet.
According to Ibiza Property Journal, the new location is expected to open in 2027, although the opening remains dependent on the completion of the necessary paperwork.
The new owners say the team, brand and collections are already being prepared, with further details about the comeback expected to be announced through SLUIZ's official social media channels.
That means visitors should not yet travel to the former location expecting to find the store open.
Instead, the revival is currently in its preparation stage — making the eventual reopening one of the more anticipated returns on Ibiza's design and shopping scene.
Why SLUIZ Mattered to Ibiza
SLUIZ became much more than a furniture shop.
Its unusual combination of design, humour, colour, food and theatrical displays made it an experience in its own right and helped establish Santa Gertrudis as one of Ibiza's destinations for art, design and creative culture.
For many visitors, the giant cows outside the store became almost as recognisable as the products inside.
Its return therefore represents more than the reopening of a retail brand. It is also the return of a distinctive piece of Ibiza's creative identity.
The new owners appear determined to preserve that spirit while allowing SLUIZ to evolve.
And if the famous blue cows really do return to the island, it may not be long before one of Ibiza's most recognisable photo stops once again becomes part of visitors' itineraries.
SLUIZ is expected to return in 2027.
