An inspection of a private property in the Es Cubells area of Sant Josep has found no indications of animal abuse after authorities received information about the possible poor condition of a group of cats living at the site.

The inspection was carried out by Sant Josep Local Police together with a veterinarian from the municipality's Centre for the Protection of Domestic Animals, CEPAD.

According to Sant Josep Town Hall, the animals were found to be in good condition and inspectors found no situation requiring municipal intervention within the council's powers.

Cats found in good condition

The inspection focused on the condition of the cats and the circumstances in which they were being kept.

Municipal services found that the adult cats were sterilised and identified with microchips.

Several kittens were also found at the property. Because of their age, these animals had not yet reached the stage at which they could be sterilised and identified.

The inspection therefore did not establish evidence of neglect or mistreatment requiring action by Sant Josep authorities.

Police receive information about possible theft

The inspection also uncovered a separate issue involving the animals.

During the visit, Local Police received information suggesting that some of the cats may have been taken by people who allegedly entered the private property without authorisation.

The wording is important: the possible theft was reported to police, but the available information does not establish that the cats were actually stolen or identify anyone responsible.

The police also found evidence that the property itself had suffered acts of vandalism.

Further visits planned

Sant Josep Local Police plans to continue monitoring the situation.

Further visits to the property are expected to take place to check that the animals remain in good condition.

This means the absence of evidence of animal abuse during the inspection does not mean that every issue surrounding the property has been resolved.

The possible removal of cats and the reported vandalism remain matters for follow-up.

Inspection followed a report about the cats

The municipal inspection was launched after information was received about the alleged poor condition of the animals.

Sant Josep says its services respond to reports involving possible animal abuse or welfare problems by checking the circumstances and taking appropriate action when the facts fall within municipal responsibilities.

In this case, the inspection did not identify evidence requiring an animal-welfare intervention.

Authorities call for accurate information

The Town Hall has also appealed for responsibility and accuracy when information about possible animal-welfare problems is passed to public authorities.

Municipal officials pointed out that inspections require the mobilisation of police, veterinary and other resources.

The council reiterated that reports of possible mistreatment are investigated, but that the findings of those inspections need to be distinguished from unverified allegations.

No evidence of abuse found during inspection

Based on the information currently available, the inspection provides a clear outcome regarding the animal-welfare allegation: Sant Josep authorities did not find indications of animal abuse among the cats examined.

At the same time, police have identified separate concerns involving possible unauthorised access, the alleged removal of some animals and vandalism at the property.

The Local Police will continue monitoring the site and the condition of the cats.
