Mallorca recorded a 10.4% increase in registered criminal offences during the first half of 2026, according to the latest criminality figures published by Spain's Ministry of the Interior.

The figures cover January to June 2026 and show a more mixed picture across the Balearic Islands. While Mallorca saw a significant increase, Ibiza recorded only a 0.4% rise and Menorca registered a decrease.

Across the Balearics as a whole, 40,494 criminal offences were recorded during the first six months of the year, 7.9% more than during the same period in 2025.

Mallorca Records 32,812 Offences

Mallorca accounted for 32,812 of the offences recorded across the Balearics between January and June.

That represented a 10.4% increase compared with the first half of 2025.

Palma recorded the largest number of offences on the island, with 18,482, an increase of 9.6%.

Other municipalities also recorded substantial increases. Inca registered 725 offences, up 16.7%, while Calvià recorded 2,334, an increase of 15.1%.

Llucmajor recorded 1,382 offences, up 10.4%, while Marratxí registered 1,000, an increase of 8.6%. Manacor recorded 1,029, up 0.6%.

Ibiza Sees Only a 0.4% Increase

The figures for Ibiza are considerably different.

A total of 5,615 criminal offences were recorded on Ibiza during the first six months of 2026, representing an increase of 0.4% compared with the same period in 2025.

At municipal level, Ibiza Town recorded 2,019 offences, up 0.9%.

Santa Eulària recorded 1,068 offences, down 2.7%, while Sant Josep recorded 1,239, an increase of 1%.

Sant Antoni recorded 1,138 offences, a decrease of 0.4%.

The figures therefore do not support describing Ibiza as experiencing the same double-digit increase seen in Mallorca.

Formentera Records a 7.5% Increase

Formentera recorded 331 criminal offences during the first half of 2026.

That was 7.5% more than during the same period of 2025.

Menorca, meanwhile, recorded 1,736 offences, representing an 8.4% decrease.

The island-by-island figures show that crime trends across the Balearics varied considerably during the period.

Conventional Crime Increased Across the Balearics

The overall Balearic increase was driven largely by conventional crime.

There were 34,059 conventional offences between January and June, an increase of 11% compared with the same period in 2025.

Cybercrime moved in the opposite direction, falling by 5.8% to 6,435 offences.

These categories are reported separately in the Ministry of the Interior's criminality statistics.

Sexual Offences Among the Categories Increasing

One of the largest percentage increases in the Balearic figures concerned offences against sexual freedom.

These increased by 15.2% during the first half of the year.

Within that category, sexual assaults involving penetration increased by 24.6%, according to the Interior Ministry figures.

Other offences against sexual freedom increased by 13.3%.

These figures refer to offences recorded by the security forces and should not be interpreted as equivalent to convictions.

Thefts Remain the Most Common Offence

Theft remained the most frequently recorded category.

There were 11,802 theft offences across the Balearics during the first six months of 2026, an increase of 8.8% compared with the same period of the previous year.

Vehicle thefts also increased, reaching 752 cases, up 17.3%.

Robbery involving violence or intimidation reached 716 cases, an increase of 9.8%.

Four Completed Homicides and 25 Attempts

The Balearic statistics recorded four completed intentional homicides and murders between January and June 2026.

There were also 25 recorded cases classified as attempted intentional homicide or murder.

These figures cover the entire Balearic Islands and are not specific to Mallorca or Ibiza.

Spain Recorded a Smaller Overall Increase

The increase in the Balearics was higher than the national increase during the same period.

Across Spain, 1,217,476 criminal offences were recorded between January and June 2026, an increase of 0.5% compared with the first half of 2025.

Conventional crime accounted for 971,540 of those offences, while cybercrime represented 245,936.

What the Figures Show for Ibiza

The latest statistics provide a useful distinction between the different islands.

Mallorca recorded a 10.4% increase, while the Balearic Islands overall rose 7.9%.

Ibiza's increase was only 0.4%, with 5,615 offences recorded, while Formentera recorded a larger 7.5% rise from a much smaller total of 331 offences.

The figures therefore show significant differences between the islands rather than a uniform increase in recorded crime across the Balearics.

The data cover the first six months of 2026 and compare them with the same period in 2025. They measure offences recorded by the relevant security forces and do not by themselves provide a measure of the risk experienced by individual residents or visitors.
