A mobile sauna built in Bristol has begun an unusual European journey that will eventually bring it to Ibiza, combining sauna culture, wild swimming and a road trip across the continent.

The sauna, built by Bristol-based Aether Sauna in Brislington, set off from the Clifton Suspension Bridge before travelling south towards Ibiza, where it is expected to become the company's first international location.

The journey is being used to connect the sauna with swimming communities along the route, with stops planned at rivers, lakes and beaches before the final destination in Ibiza.

From Bristol to Ibiza

Rather than transporting the sauna directly to Spain, Aether Sauna has chosen to make the journey itself part of the project.

The mobile unit began its trip beside the Clifton Suspension Bridge and travelled along the River Avon before continuing towards Portsmouth.

From there, it crossed by ferry to Spain and is continuing its journey south towards Ibiza.

The route gives the project a distinctly Bristol starting point before taking the sauna through several European destinations.

A Sauna Built in Brislington

Aether Sauna builds its mobile saunas in Brislington, in east Bristol.

The company specialises in mobile sauna experiences, and the Ibiza project represents an expansion beyond its existing UK activities.

The Bristol Post reported that the sauna's journey is connected to plans for a new permanent base in Ibiza.

Combining Sauna and Wild Swimming

The European journey is not simply about transporting the sauna.

The project is designed around the relationship between sauna sessions and cold-water swimming, with the sauna stopping at different swimming locations along the route.

The concept brings together heat, cold water and outdoor environments, with the journey allowing the team to meet swimming communities before reaching Ibiza.

After beginning beside the Avon Gorge, the sauna has travelled towards the coast and across the Channel before continuing through Spain.
