Woman Injured While Protecting Her Dog in Reported Sant Antoni Attack by Potentially Dangerous Dog

18 September 2026

A woman in Sant Antoni is urging dog owners to take extra precautions after she says she was injured while protecting her own dog from another animal during a morning walk.

According to the woman's account, the incident happened at around 7:15am on Thursday, September 17, in the new Vara de Rey boulevard area of Sant Antoni.

She says a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, a breed classified as potentially dangerous under Spanish regulations, escaped from its collar while being walked on a lead and approached her and her dog without a muzzle.

Woman Says She Was Injured Protecting Her Dog

The woman, who shared her account and photographs on social media, says she immediately intervened when the other dog approached her pet.

She says she placed herself between the two animals and was eventually knocked to the ground while trying to protect her dog.

According to her account, she suffered scratches and other injuries to her knee and thigh, as well as a broken fingernail.

She says her own dog was not injured.

Owner Was Unable to Restrain the Dog Immediately

The woman says the owner of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier attempted to regain control of the animal but initially struggled to do so.

According to her account, she continued protecting her dog until the owner eventually managed to restrain the animal.

She later said the owner was deeply affected by what had happened and had been concerned about her condition.

Two Sant Antoni Town Hall workers who were in the area also came to assist following the incident, according to the woman's account.

Incident Reported to Local Police

Following the incident, the woman says she went to the Sant Antoni Local Police, who advised her to formally report what had happened.

She subsequently attended an emergency department for treatment and received a medical report documenting her injuries.

She says she intends to make a formal complaint to the Guardia Civil, although at the time of the report she had not yet done so.

There is currently no indication in the available reporting that a police investigation or administrative sanction has been formally announced.

Muzzle and Leash Requirements

The incident has also renewed attention on the rules applying to dogs classified as potentially dangerous.

The woman says the dog involved was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and should have been wearing a suitable muzzle in public.

Spanish regulations require dogs classified as potentially dangerous to be appropriately controlled in public spaces, including being kept on a suitable lead and wearing a muzzle under the applicable rules.

In this particular case, the woman's account states that the dog was initially on a lead but managed to escape from its collar.

Her Message Is About Prevention

The woman has stressed that she is sharing the experience to raise awareness rather than to publicly target the other owner.

Her message is that owners should check that collars, harnesses and leads are properly fitted and secure, particularly when walking dogs in busy public areas.

She also warned that an incident involving a dog and another animal can quickly become dangerous for people who attempt to intervene.

“Within seconds something very serious can happen,” is the central message of her appeal, according to her published account.

No Serious Outcome Reported

Despite the frightening circumstances described by the woman, she says she managed to protect her dog and that the incident did not escalate further.

The injuries described in the available reports are scratches and other minor physical injuries, for which she sought medical attention.

There is no report that either dog suffered serious injuries.

A Reminder for Dog Owners in Ibiza

The incident comes as Ibiza continues to address questions surrounding responsible dog ownership and the control of potentially dangerous animals.

Earlier this year, a separate and much more serious incident in Sant Josep involved two Rottweilers that attacked and killed a Boxer dog and injured its owner. That was a different incident and is not connected to the Sant Antoni case reported here.

In the Sant Antoni case, the available information comes primarily from the injured woman's account. A formal complaint and any subsequent action by authorities would be needed to establish further facts about the incident.

For now, her appeal is straightforward: owners should ensure their dogs are securely controlled, follow the applicable regulations and take particular care when walking animals in public spaces.
